What should I do for the holiday weekend? [More:]I've got a 5-day weekend coming up; my friends that I thought I was going to go visit aren't going to be home, my Vancouver friend is out of town, my best friend here in Seattle can't go on a road trip with me because he has other plans, and all of my other close local friends are too tied up with their lives to go away with me. What should I do, where should I go? I don't want to just hang out here in town. I really need a change of scenery, a change of perspective, something away from the stress and confusion. And it shouldn't cost a lot.
July 4th weekend? Knowing the holiday may affect the suggestions.

Come see meeeeee!

Yes, I chose to disregard all of your criteria. Sorry.

Yep, July 1-5.

SassHat - if Elizard can pack me in her suitcase, I can do that, and also see Elizard (aforementioned out-of-town Vancouver friend).

Many things are probably already booked, but I'd try to find some time on a ferry-able island pre-ferry-ably a less crowded one. This is quality alone time (see also: the mountains, the rainforest), I'm thinking of here, which is maybe not what you want?

It's going to have to be quality alone time since I don't have anyone to have any quality together time with.

If all else fails I could ferry to Orcas Island for a day.

*goes shopping for a second suitcase*

elizard, when I lived in Florida, there was a period where bodies were being found in suitcases by the side of the highway for a while. So, now everytime I see a suitcase, I wonder...

*shops for oxygen mask, drills airholes in new suitcase, reassures 'tilda that jonmc is a mad, mad man and she should just ignore his appalling suggestion*

*looks around shiftily*

Orcas is nice. I saw my first bunch of maggots in a farmhouse there!

Maybe a little B 'n' B around Port Townshend? I guess the upcoming days are the time for hunting for cancellations.

I would've said day trip to Paradise, but it looks like there's summer construction.

Seriously, though, that sucks. I so wish it wasn't while I'm off terrorizing Hogtown. Do you know anyone who has a cabin, or might know someone who rents theirs out? Depending on your budget, you might be able to find one through the paper or google. Hell, if you wanted you could come stay at my place and just hang in Vancouver, but I don't know if that holds any appeal.

One of my dream vacations is to bugger off into the wilderness by myself with some good wine, food, and books, and you strike me as another person who might really enjoy that.

I, too, wish you the good times. I was aiming for if you were looking for alone alone or alone in the crowd, but emp and symp with the alone none-the-less.

fabulous cocktail party for yourself? Mix up different lovely things, cook teeny tasty bites and crank up the good music?

no?

If you consider my offer, I must in fairness warn you that the children upstairs have feet. of. lead. Based on my observations of their size vs the amount of noise they can make, it is my scientific opinion that their pink child-skin disguises a core of purest neutronium.

I suggest Bellingham.

I have been in your shoes Matilda. And it sucked. Take a deep breath and know that it will get better. Fill up your time with things to do, if you decide to stay in town. Museums, movies, shopping, concerts, etc. But try not to think negative stuff too much.

Suggestion: go get yourself scuba lessons. Or sailing. Seriously.

wha? this guy on the radio is talking about prime ministers and women getting laid. Is he nuts?

Carmina, things aren't bad at all. I just haven't had a real vacation in a while, and I've got a few things on my mind I need some perspective on.

I already had scuba lessons and I freaked out in the pool and had to embarrass myself in front of all my co-workers by bagging out.
