wet nuts [More:] am I the only one who has never heard of this as an ice cream topping? Walnuts or pecans in corn syrup and sugar. This is a new one on me. Versus, the, um, peanut chips you might get on ice cream. We are having ice cream at work and people are screaming for wet nuts. Is this a Southern thing?
Is this a Southern thing?

Nope, got 'em here in Jersey, too.

I think it may be a southern thing, as I never had it until I moved south. They are goooooood though, and that's all that matters.

In Michigan you ask for "two handfuls of white freeze spattered with torn scrote" if you want wet nuts on your vanilla ice cream. It's a grisly state I tell you.

I am from the Northeastern corner of Pennsylvania and that topping is fairly common. The peanut chips is/are called "crunch coat", but yes, wet walnut topping is fairly common where I was raised, about 4 hours north of the Mason-Dixon line, so it could be Southern in origin.

Whatever the origin, I tell you, three big Southern ladies rushing up to you as you are sitting quitely at your desk not participating in ice cream and asking you breathlessly, "Wher'e the Wet Nuts!" (the what?) "WET NUTS! For the ice cream. You can't have you a sundae without your wet nuts!" (what?) "Oh, here they are , on T's desk! Whew!" and lumbering away again - well, that'll wake you right on up.

Never heard of em... in upstate New York, or California, or Texas, or Michigan.

I wish I had dreams like that, rainbaby.

I'm from Texas, and I've never heard the term. It sounds revolting.

Never heard the term here in lower-middle Canadia.

I've never heard of them either (California, Texas, Washington and BC, Canada).
