I like menus. I request that you send me menus. Really. [More:]No, not kidding. I have a serious menu fetish, and I always nab a take-out menu from restaurants when I travel. But I don't really travel much outside of the West Coast. So I was wondering....

It occurred to me that Metachat was the perfect way to build a collection. Anyone care to help? Just grab a paper menu when you see one -- from your neighborhood restaurants, weekends away, business trips, etc. -- and send them to me when you remember?

Will provide address if you send me an email. And I'll try to send you something in return.

Thanks! Yay!

My pie-in-the-sky goal, which exists mostly to justify this strange fetish, is to eventually scan the menus and put them online. Seems like a really good pop culture study to me. Anyway.
You need to move to NYC, pup. Trust me, inside of a week, you'll be up to yer keister in menus that will beggar description.

But see, what I'm saying is that my collection is already geographically skewed. I should have made that clearer. I'd love to have lots of NY menus, but I want some from Kansas and Florida and Arizona and North Carolina and Toronto and Chicago too. See?

I found this picture on Triode's photostream, which should please the cilantro-haters among us.

I'll be glad to send you some menus from Copenhagen, Denmark if this is not some kind of U.S.-exclusive thing.

Email is in the profile if you're interested.

Check out the scanned menus for Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. at Amazon.com.

I just moved to a new town and I've begun collecting take-out menus whenever I eat somewhere new here. I'll start taking two and when I've amassed a bunch I'll send 'em to you.

Cool...what is it that you like about the menus, mud? Is it the design, or the food, or the lettering, or the personal comments, or what? I'll start saving too.

Thanks, amro!

Ico, it's a food-porn thing. And also, the geographical variations (especially among breakfast menus) fascinates me.

I can't walk past a menu posted outside a restaurant without stopping to read it, even if I'm piss-poor and stuffed to the gills. Most people who have ever walked with me can attest to this.

Anyway, thanks for the links and the potential mail, y'all!

Funny... I love menus, too... especially diner menus... something about 'em. They conjure up the comforts for me... the booths, coffee refills, pink and green neon, toothpicks at check-out, those grab-a-stuffed-animal machines in the foyer that I always waste fifty cents in... the other folks there at 3am...

We have this menu from the Oasis Diner in Burlington, VT, that's one of my favorites. I wish I had two, I'd send you one... There's the "Oasis Burrito" and "Oasis Milkshake," available in mocha. Oasis, indeed.

There's also a brief diner history on the back and a quote, from a local personality:

"The Oasis is everybody's second kitchen." It's by Maggie Conant, Mother of two, wife of one, Art teacher, citizen.

And it's laminated.

Here's one for ya, pup. This place just opened a block from our hose. Not typical NC fare, but tasty nonetheless.

uh house, not hose.

Do you want take away menus or "proper" menus? I could probably scan a few of the former, and photos of the latter would be pretty easy. Or would you rather have the hard copy?

I love menus too! If I'm in a pub which does food, even if I'm not eating, I can't help but read the menu. It's a food-porn thing for me, really.
