Askmecha: Reprinting the DIY mosquito trap instructions I was thinking of making some line drawings based on the photos from the this site and getting my town to publish it in the monthly newsletter. Can I make my own pics and use their instructions as long as I credit them? Thanks to anyone who can help!
A google search for 'mosquito trap bottle sugar' brings up over 100,000 results. I think that confirms that the instructions are part of the public domain and you need not credit any one website. No way to tell if they're the original creator of the trap, anyway.

Thanks, mudpuppie. Since it's a town publication, I wanted to be sure there weren't any legal issues with it.

if it's not for profit (that is, you're not selling the newsletter or profiting from it), you definitely can do it...to be nice, tho, you should contact the site and get permission.

The thing that has bothered me about these traps - I was under the assumption that male mosquitos need less protein in their diet and are mostly herbivores (plant drippings of various sorts) while females which need the extra protein for growing eggs are the ones that drink blood.

So this trap will attract male mosquitos who don't bother mammals anyway... is it also effective in capturing the mammal-biting females as well?

The trap works by giving off CO2, same as those traps that are powered off of propane. So they'll work for the mammal biting sex.
