Stanley Cup. [More:]In a way, I want Edmonton to win, b/c I'm surrounded by people in suv's who are cheering just because they think that Raleigh is hollywood. And, in a way I want the 'canes to win b/c Edmonton has had its turn with the cup, how bout the newbie?

Then I also think it would be cool if the 'canes won to put Raleigh on the radar or someone somewhere who may be considering relocation or something. And it may or may not have anything to do with our creative conference we're doing here in September - especially since Richard Florida's data show that the creative class doesn't give a crap about pro sports teams.

Then I think, it'll be like the superbowl and next year we'll struggle to remember who won last year much less who played.

Ok so maybe I should go clean out the litter boxes.

That is all.
When the Oilers won last night, people were shooting off fireworks in the local park (they're on sale right now for Canada day). Monday nght is going to be loud if they win. Senators? Who they?

In a way I want the Canes to win because they only got this far since Buffalo had most of their defence out and was playing with kids from our farm team. So if they win my mind will translate it as "Buffalo was the best this year."

Although most of my friends just want to see the Hurricanes suffer, and don't get my logic.

Is see both those sides, Kelly. But in the end, it would just KILL me to see Rod Brindamour hoisting the cup. Go Oilers, I guess.

I hope the Sabres can hold the team together for next year as much as possible. Think of it this way... some of those n00b defensemen have more experience in CONFERENCE FINALS games than in regular season games. What a great place to start! And some of those young d-men really impressed me. I think the Sabres will be great for several years to come.

Was there any noticeable positive fallout in Tampa Bay after they won the cup?

I don't have a dog in this race - both teams are built pretty well and entertaining enough. It just bothers me when a "shut down" "trap" kind of team wins it all since other teams inevitably try to imitate that style the following season.

Doohickie: you're totally right. In a way it was a mixed blessing, since we now have a lot more talent to tap into on the defense side, something we really needed this year.

They're a very young team now, a lot of the best guys are nowhere near retirement age, so I guess we just go for it again next year.

It just breaks my heart to know that our games sell out in less than a quarter hour, they were broadcast on the screen at the baseball park for people who couldn't get tickets, and even the city busses started playing the games over the radio, and we lost to a team that can't even sell out a game seven.
I live downtown, when we made it to that round it was insane. People were cheering and celebrating in the streets until FIVE AM. Busses were laying on the horns, people were jumping up and down and screaming on their rooftops, I'd never seen anything like it. I can't even imagine what it would have been if we'd won the cup. But I hope I'll see it someday.
There's just so much love for the team, and the sport, here. Almost every business has a sign or banner thanking them for a great year, most saying "next year the cup!" or something. There really isn't that "they lost, they suck" attitude. There's still a lot of hurt about the loss to Dallas years ago, too.

I just wish we could win it some year. This is such a hockey city, and let's face it, Buffalo doesn't have much else going for it these days. ;)

I was rooting for the Sens but then they had to go and die (as usual - I was hoping this year would be different) so now I've jumped on the Oilers bandwagon.

What? I want a Canadian team to get the cup.

Let's go Oilers, let's go!

For the first time in my hockey-watching life, I was cheering for the Sabres. I had always hated them--but Briere was my favorite Coyote, so I've had a change of heart.

Anyway, I suppose I'm hoping the Oilers win. The Oh Canada singing really warms my heart.

The only other reasopn I want the 'canes to win is because Jeff O'Neill used to live in our building and he was madly in love with himself. He was highly annoyed that I naively asked him, "what's your last name again?" when a friend he was sitting with stopped me in the pub to say hi and introduced me. He said with a sneer, as if I didn't recognize His Royal Starship, "O'NEILL." What an asshole. It'd be sweet if they brought the cup here the first year after he left. [evil grin]

Go Oilers. Nice to see a Canruckian team do well. If it isn't going to be the Avalanche, then I hope someone like the Oilers win.

Aside from history and hating the NHL's southward migration and neglect of its fanbase and the underdog status, the Oilers need to win simply because they have the classiest logo.

And come on, the Hurricanes? R.I.P. Whalers
