Keep or Return this Gift? My lovely wife bought me an XM radio for Fathers' Day. But I am not sure I want it.
I like to listen to 1) news, and we have a good NPR station already, 2) music, particularly world music, scratchy blues and gospel, and old school punk, and 3) audiobooks or public affairs programming. From the XM website there aren't that many channels of interest. Do any of you bunnies have an XM radio? What do you think of it? And if I am to return it, how to do so gracefully?

Consider yourself lucky. I got to buy my family dinner. ;-P

Tell her thanks but you don't really think you *need* it. If she insists, try it out.

I, like you, don't see a pressing need for XM. But if someone got me one as a gift, I'd check it out for sure.

We like XM at our house -- it is nice to have radio without commericals. But I think that the main reason that we have it is for baseball in the car.

XM is the only gift I have ever given my husband that he truly loves and uses. When he first got it, he set all his presets to the blues and classic rock stations, but over time found himself drawn more to the old school rap and punk. Who knew?

Keep it. You'll find plenty to listen to.

It's probably one of those things (like Tivo when it first came out) that people don't really immediately think is that big a deal but after using it for a while they say they can't live without it. But then I don't listen to the radio at all, so what do I know.

One instance where I've read that it's extremely valuable is on long road trips, as you don't have to put up with wading through the local muck of each two-bit town and the constant hunting.

I hear the comedy station(s) alone are worth having it for. Or is that Sirius?

Don't forget Fred! and Comedy on 150. BBC World Service. World Cup!

My car has been in the shop for two weeks and I've had to endure the loaner car's radio. I miss my XM.

Yes, Mike, there are great comedy stations on XM. My husband loves it, and has it set to classic rock and heavy metal stations. You can find almost everything on it. I'd say give it a shot, LarryC, you might be pleasantly surprised.
