reccomend me some pop music [More:]
I mean the stuff you hear on top 40 stations. I never listen or watch the music channels so anything from the last couple years I might be clueless about. I like that Kelly Clarkson song "Walk Away" as an example.
Finally!!! A music thread I can contribute to!

A few things from the past few years I love:
Anything by a band called The Click Five
"Caught Up" by Usher
"Swing, Swing" and "Dirty Little Secret" by All American Rejects
"One, Two Step" by Ciara
"Looking for a Place to Land" by Dakota Moon (one hit wonder! This song was everywhere, and then they disappeared so fast)
"Stupid Little Love Song" by Fefe Dobson
"My Love is Like...Wo" by Mya
"God is a DJ" by Pink
"Lonely No More" by Rob Thomas
"Switch" by Will Smith
"Take Your Mama" by the Scissors Sisters

At the risk of being lynched, I like anything by Maroon 5.

Thanks, Pinky.

LT, Maroon 5 is my favorite newish band. I downloaded some boots and they do some amazing shit live. They were in Little Rock and I almost went and now I REALLY wish I had. But it was a girl like 8 years younger than me that invited me and I felt weird about that. heh.
What's pop music? No really, doesn't that just mean "popular"? I never did grasp what falls into that genre...Do you like quirky sounding girls strumming their with guitars singing duets in their own special little way? Try Ane Brun. Youtube: Ane Brun feat. Ron Sexsmith - Song No. 6

(oh! PS! Ane just sold Platinum in Sweden and duetted with ten different people today at Hultsfred festival, so that's kinda top 40 innit?)

Does Annie count? Or is that last year's news?

I'm listening to Six Organs of Admittance right now, so I'm totally the wrong person to answer this question.

I totally and unabashedly second "Take Your Mama Out", its a great song and its fun to sing along with it. TPS, I'm taking your list and going to LimeWire with it, I think you and I share a musical ear or something!

And I don't know how "pop" it is but The Richmond Sluts singing "Drive Me Wild" always, well, drives me wild.

I never listen to the radio so I have no idea what is popular or new. I just wait for Master Jonmc to lay down some funk, some rock or whatever else is his whim and I lap it like milk. So far he's batting around .900 for great music with me with the other .100 being decent but not quite my style.

I love Annie, too. But she might be considered squeaky girl music.

You like Kelly, but you didn't mention "Since U Been Gone", which was widely blogged and got covered by Ted Leo (although he no longer plays it at shows).

Annie is definitely a cut above your average pop star. I don't mind Dido, either, but she's dull as paste sometimes. Sia (Furler, of Zero 7) has a fantastic song called "Breathe Me" which has an innovative video, and there's a couple of nice remixes of the song (I like the Mylo).

If your requirement is just "pop" as in musical approach, but the "Top 40" angle isn't so important, I'd try Sufjan Stevens' Illinois, Nellie McKay, Metric, Nouvelle Vague, Letters from Cleo. Leaning towards rock, I'm not really opposed to some bands like Jet, Hoobastank, Morningwood, or the Walkmen, either.
