To be fair, it's not really a big mistake on B's side. I don't think it's the mistake as much as it is just the way B functions socially, in general. My mom (conservative) calls it, "like watching a child about to fall," on cement, head first.
...because, as President and Decider, he is not legally bound to answer questions from anyone wearing sunglasses. Apparently it's the only way to be sure the Media Hypno-Ray is working.
This bugs me. It is an innocent mistake. . .something that Bush probably apologized for later, either privately or publically. His bantering with the press can appear to be "winning" or "cute," although not to me.
But stuff like this also serves to obscure the very deep and fundamental ways that he and his handlers and allies are changing this country, to the country's extreme detriment. He's royally fucking up this country and as much of the world as he can get his hands on.
So, we laugh at his clownishness and the slow deliberate murder of our democracy plays on.

I have no interest in being fair to B. The Segway the pretzel, that thing where he tried to go out the wrong door: I will happily minimize and dishonestly hide any mitigating factors for the sake of making him look like the tiny, tiny, horrible, horrible man he truly is. Orson Welles in Touch of Evil is my model here.
Bush tries to use folksy humour to deflect everyone's attention from the real issues and the fact that he doesn't give proper answers to questions. Also, in this case, the reporter's question was so poorly stated that it would confuse anyone.
