Mecha Newbies, Low-quantity Posters, Lurkers, Ephemerals! [More:] Gimme your best shot, right here, right now! Dazzle me with your heretofore underappreciated sexy genius! LT Wants to Know More About the Reticent Bunnies!

Here's your introductory conversation starter - "Hi, I'm LT. My favorite color is blue, I like electronic music and I have a Portuguese Water Dog puppy."

Now you! Go!
I just saw a man walk down the lab hallway with a big bucket of starfish.
posted by porpoise 14 June | 15:47
Starfish in my workplace would kill my productivity. I guess you lab workers get used to that, though!
posted by halonine 14 June | 15:54
Low quantity or low quality?

Hi, I'm Kero ( from Kerouac, not anime). My hobbies include making art with glue and pasta products, volunteering at a local bar (how else would they stay open?) and making hay while the sun shines.

I thought the second item on the list was "low quality posters" so that's why I'm here.

YAPPO!

all the kids are saying it nowadays, don't you want to be cool? I can't help being a trendsetter, it's just me.

Hiya. I'm unknowncommand. It's nice to meet you. I think bees and octopuses are really cool. I like to peoplewatch and to watch people who are peoplewatching. My socks never match. Sometimes I really miss Houston, TX.

My name is fuzzbean. I don't eat things with suckers.
posted by Fuzzbean 14 June | 16:43
I'm not a newbie or a lurker, but I just wanted to say hi.

Hi.

Also, I like bees too.

All the cool kids are double-posting now. Also, I drive through houston once a year and that's all the exposure I need to it.

I don't post alot because I'm paranoid of posting from work. crap!

Hello. I am retired from the Beeb. I am very fond of hats and cats but I disliked the Cat In The Hat movie.

Like specklet, I am no n00b or lurker. I seek to gain recognition on this forum through posting in quantity, not quality.
posted by Doohickie 14 June | 17:09
Most of you don't know me, but I know you. I know everything about you; I know where you sleep, where you eat, where you do your laundry. One day I'll make you regret everything you've done.
posted by cmonkey 14 June | 17:16
It didn't work, LT. 75% of posts are from regulars.

It didn't work, LT.

Man, YA THINK? *cracks up*

Nice try, though, y'all.

I'm a fairly new lurker, eavesdropping on all your conversations. I have tattoos, love the outdoors, and am a taphophile. Curious?
posted by redvixen 14 June | 17:47
taphophile

That's hawt.
posted by cmonkey 14 June | 17:51
cmonkey's a tapophile. Or bottle. Doesn't matter how he gets his beer.
posted by matildaben 14 June | 17:54
A Taphophile is an LT-stalking, bushy-tailed quadruped, who strikes without warning and then disappears into the electronic underbrush.

En garde, Reddish Miscreant Thou!

Hi, my name is Msali, long time lurker, first time poster. I am polylingual and I make heaps of money employing my skills as such (makes you think, doesn't it?). I think nature is messy. I also have tattoos. If I ever go to a meetup, I would shout you all out. I love the color pink, I love unicorns, I love bunnies, I love World Cup and I love Mecha.
posted by msali 14 June | 17:59
I want to know what happened to the bucket of starfish.

Hello, my name is loquacious, and I'm sitting in a bucket of starfish.

*darts out from a tangle of wires, pounces on a hapless LT, giggling fiercely, and leaves him in a confused daze, covered in tail-fur*
posted by redvixen 14 June | 18:23
Starfish? Lucky, all we have in our lab are oodles of E. coli and S. cerevisiae. I get to work with the latter, though, so all of my experiments smell like a bakery.
posted by ubersturm 14 June | 18:31
According to tradition, the quick fox jumps the dog, you know.
posted by Wolfdog 14 June | 18:31
Ah, yes, so true, wolfdog. Perhaps I shall cover you with tail-fur and dash away?
posted by redvixen 14 June | 18:34
Don't count on any lazy if you do.
posted by Wolfdog 14 June | 18:35
methinks the bushy-tailed quadropeds are running amok this night!

Do you then spraypaint them gold? If it's not gold, it's just noodles, man. Just noodles.
posted by jrossi4r 14 June | 19:48
I think the starfishes are interesting and would like to see some pictures from a typical workday for porpoise.
posted by chewatadistance 14 June | 20:16
The starfish, I'm afraid, were not long for this world.

We also have albino clawed toads (NSFtsqueemish). Their young are transparent and you can tag and trace single neurons as they grow. There's a non-human primate hidden somwhere, too, in addition to the standard rats and mice. I know some people who work in hampsters.

Starfish are a cheaper neuronal model than lobster - although some people require the lobster model. Lucky sods - they get to take their experiment home with them after it's over. People who used to make polyclonal antibody in rabbits did the same thing once they got what they wanted out of the bunnies.

That must be crowded.

am i a low-quantity poster?

googling my name brings up pretty much my entire online life. pretty cool, actually.

also, this salesman at my work today kept staring at my boobs. I was pretty flattered - does that make me a bad feminist?
posted by muddgirl 14 June | 20:33
That depends - show us your boobs and we'll let you know.
posted by dg 14 June | 20:39
Low quality, medium quantity over here.

I have nothing much to say except that I hope I never get too jaded to appreciate a perfect hard-boiled egg with a little salt and pepper.

Hi. My name is finallymarki and I’m a lurker. When I do actually comment it’s usually after the thread is dead - I was totally going to post earlier today and break my streak but I got distracted by wine and board games. It’s too late at night to be dazzling, but I promise to try harder next time. I’m in my late 20s and still ask for a pony for my birthday every year out of habit. I have no idea what I’d do if I actually got one, but I think that riding to work would be pretty cool. Can you tie a horse to a parking meter?
posted by finallymarki 15 June | 00:59
No one has ever asked me home after making my polyclonal antibodies, not even if I bought them dinner and drinks.

sigh.
posted by Lipstick Thespian 15 June | 10:19
Here in Portland you can tie your horse to the sidewalk. Many of the sidewalks have the original metal rings that were imbedded in the cement for that very purpose. If you replace the sidewalk, you have to replace the rings too. Some historical preservation rule.

Who makes these rings, anyway? cmonkey, you know?
posted by Specklet 15 June | 10:34
I’m moving to Portland. Ya’ll have Powells too! Between the horses and the books, I think I might owe it to my 14-yr old self to go.
Please tell me that you have at some point seen a horse randomly tied on the sidewalk. I just really like the idea of a town where you might be hurrying along the street, lugging a laptop and a latte, and you have to squeeze by a horse to get to work.

Oh, and according to the City of Portland Sidewalk Maintenance Program: “When a metal horse ring is contained in a section of curb to be removed, Contractor shall remove the horse ring assembly without damage and shall reinstall in the new curb at the same project stationing, or as close as practical. In the event no curb is replaced, such as new driveway location, Contractor shall give the ring(s) to City's Bureau of Maintenance”

I didn't, until I read finallymarki's link.

There's one near my house.

Not a lurker or a newbie, but I guess I'm a low-quantity poster, so, hi.

Something about me? I used to work in a lab where we had a human brain in the freezer.1 2

1Yes, really. We did Alzheimer's research.

2If it puts your mind at ease, this wasn't a typical for-home-use refrigerator/freezer thing. It was a big industrial -70°C (-94°F) freezer.
