Insurrection! [More:] Dramatic Dispatch: okay, the show opens in three days. Director is so nasty and personal in his notes from Sunday's run-thru that the lead in our show took him aside and said people were ready to quit the show. (I being one of them). So, last night, he was sugar incarnate. Of course, it was spun sugar, confectioner's sugar, and highly false, but better than the personal attacks which are more in his comfort zone.

So we're all out there last night on stage, in pouring rain until it got bad enough to call it off. Muddy, bedraggled actors now have their vehicles stuck in the muck late at night. Fire drill ensues.

We finally get out of there at 11:30pm, and I'm driving along with one of my castmates who used to be a Lt. Col. Army Ranger guy, and he's talking about his career and the men he's lost while thick tendrils of white mist are undulating out of the dark and enveloping our car.

A spooky and transcendant night for all of us.
You're. . .working. . .OUTSIDE??!?!?!?!!!!!

*faints*

You are mad.

The band director in high school was like your director, which is why I stopped playing the saxophone.

There's nothing worse than someone who criticizes you and mocks you in public without himself having done anything better.

Our director has changed this show so much each time we've rehearsed it, that all the actors just got together last night and worked the scenes out themselves.

It's like the Caine Mutiny of summer stock theater. All of us just decided to make each other look as good as possible and ignore the director totally. Should be a wild run.

May it be a hit.
May you be getting paid reasonably.
May you wear bug spray.

The last mad genius coked-out director I had. . .I was in An American Classic Musical which shall remain nameless but featured a chorus of, pretty much, strippers. So, I wasn't really stripping, right, but I'm shaking it in scanty clothes in four inch heels for forty bucks a night trying to please this pimpy MADMAN in the name of art . . .it got inside my head.

And my dance partner was this really exquisitely talented twenty year old kid, and I just became. . .too old for that kind of shit anymore!

(I decided I was too old for Outside at 19. You are a stark, raving madman, and therefore deserve all the best.)

This is my first-ever outside show. We'll all be camping out at the theater the weekends the show runs. Should be great.

I think after this performance, I'm going to do just classroom stuff instead of a show. It's a real grind, and yes, the older I get the sillier it is to do stuff like this.

And I don't think doing any more regional stuff is going to make me any better as an actor - it's time for training.

Well, where the hell is it and when? I'll bring a dead cat and a crate of slightly used vegetables.

This may well turn out to be another "Springtime for Hitler" that will make you a star.

There's no way I am going to be anything other than completely spent and out-of-it from this show. I'm only staying in it because the other people in it are cool and turning into friends of mine.

Warbaby - if you're going to see a show of mine, don't see this one. There will be better opps for better shows down the line. Trust me.

Yeah, you gotta post a review at least! I feel for what you are going through. It'll get better in a few days.

I'll still go out and do a small show or read for local commercials - but no musicals, no mad directors. My mental health is better, but I get a lot of that hateful question from hateful people: Are you doing anything? AAAAAHHHHHHH!

Well no. I'm not doing anything humiliating, if that's what you mean.

This show will never be reviewed. The best I can offer is some pics from the stage on the front page of the theater site after a few weeks.

(actually, i don't know that for certain. Let me check the web to see if any of their past productions have been in print.)

I gotta' admit, LT, though you've begged us not to go, the sheer train-wreck aspect of this you're describing makes it REEEEEAAAAL tempting to check it out.

However, as it is your wish...

*sends a care package of whuffles and tarpaulins to LT*

We missed you in IRC last night! Now I'm even more sad knowing what you were actually doing.

I'll be in better shows, trust me. The main characters are good, very good actors, really. It's just not the best Shakespeare, and we've tried too hard to make it watchable. I mean, one character has to do magic tricks even in btw scenes! Save your money.
