Help me think of a word! Ok, writing an article on Wallace and Grommit's Wererabbit.

I need a word, and I believe that there is one though I can't think of it, that describes this situation:

In the bunnyvac, the rabbits all have fingerprints on the "clay" that they were modelled in. Except, that was all done with computers.
I'm looking for something that sums up anachronistic counterfeiting. Googling has been fruitless, as has the thesaurus.

Can you bunnies help?
homunculi?

ersatz?

Homunculi is pretty close to what I'm looking for. I'll see if anyone else has a better answer for a little bit before I mark yours best ;)

Is this related to the plastic basket I saw that was formed into a woven wicker design, but the color was a two-tone faux marble effect?

Simulacri? (singular: simulacrum)

I bet agro's got it.

Oooh, I know this one!! It's simu... damnit!

Cool, thanks. Still not exactly what I was thinking of, but close enough.
Perhaps I need to either summon the Hat or charge y'all with boxing up a neologism...
And yeah, Sticky, that's exactly what I'm thinking of.
"Fauxthenticity"? Heh.

Fauxthenticity?! That coinage will live on.

Can you give us an example of the sentence you would use the word in? Or more completely define the concept you want to express?

Skiamorph might come close... http://www.nous.org.uk/skiamorph.html

Meaning objects designed to look like the archiac forms that they are replacing.. or something.

Verisimulitude?

Agro, as your amanuensis, I must point out that: according to Mirriam-Webster, simulacra is the plural, or simulacrums, if you prefer.

Vintaging?

One definition of skiamorph I found said it's "unnecessary holdovers that show up when new technologies displace existing ones."

Maybe you could call the "fingerprints" simulated skiamorphs.

Skiamorph looks to be EXACTLY what I wanted when I set out.
Thanks, MeCha!

Specklet: Excellent work. This is why I pay you such an outlandish salary. By the way, how's progress on the choreography for The Adoration of the Old Gods? The festival is in one week!

Woot! *does vocabulary dance*

Now I just need to think of term for the archetype of "silent, long-suffering straight man."

Harpo's not quite it... And neither are any of the Comedia d'arte folks...

Harpo's not quite it...

Maybe cause Zeppo was the straight man? Ok, ok, still probably not it.
posted by agropyron 13 June | 13:12
No, no... More the Teller, the Silent Bob... Harpo was mute.

You mean like Mark Darcy? George Bailey? Wolverine?

Agro, the choreography is a bit sticky. I want very much to work in a bit about Khepri and the dying evening sun, but so far have not come up with anything satisfactory.

Sorry to derail a bit, but weren't the CG effects mostly compositing and after-effects while the main animation was still stop motion? I just want to know the source of the assertion klangklangston, as I'm genuinely curious.

ooga, it WAS actually claymation, but for the tiny bits that were CG: "Special software had to be created in order to photo-realistically recreate the texture of genuine Aardman plasticine in the computer. The software had to create the possibility for slight imperfections, e.g., fingerprints to appear on the fake plasticine bunnies and ripple effects of the characters moving their plasticine arms and legs."

Yup.

Oooo! Thanks Speck! This news makes me at once happy and a little crushed because I thought of doing exactly this, i.e. CG-claymation, a while ago. I'm happy to see it happening but I'm sorry I didn't do it first. Still, if anyone was going to do it, it would be Aardman. Cheers!
