Ole! Anyone else excited about the World Cup kicking off? Got any good World Cup stories?[More:]
(The link is to the Bouncing Soul's "Ole")
Jinx!

It's about to start. I'll be back at half time.

Cracking goal to Germany.

Wow, down to the exact minute even. Enjoy the first half and think of us poor suckers at work. Thankfully, I've got Monday off to watch the first U.S. match here.

I was at the '94 Cup match in DC between Belgium and Saudi Arabia when Said Owairan left "a trail of flailing Belgians in his wake before coolly tucking the ball away" in the last few minutes of SA's shocker over the Duvels.

In '95, when I lived in Israel, my having been present for the greatest goal in Arab soccer history was grounds for a dozen invites to visit friends in the neighboring Palestinian village, eat sweets and drink tea in their parlors, and recount for vast assemblies (okay, groups of twenty or so friends and neigbors) my eyewitness play-by-play of The Goal.

BBC Commentator: "Jens Lehmann has waited 8 years to appear in a major tournament and the first thing he has to do is pick the ball out of the back of the net."

Hahahaha!!

First card of tbe tournament.

SPOILER ALERT! would be a nice thing to say, should you want to discuss final results for a game within say 24 hours or so.

Please, take pity upon the timezone-handicapped and Tivo owners!

(Oh, and: GO USA!)

Is there _anywhere_ I can listen to (or watch) the game online? I'm dying here!
(I live in the US)

The current game is on ESPN2, so you should be able to find a way to watch it in the US, though maybe not via computer.

My awesome employer added ESPN2 to the desktop TV feeds, so I have the game at my desk :-)

You aren't watching it live?

These aren't final results, these are "live" comments.

What a game though! Three goals in the first half! I reckon Costa Rica are rooted though. They were looking very good for a while, but the Germans are looking better. I have to go out to the deck for a smoke.

Ahhh yes I am at work. And desktop TV feeds? You do have an awesome employer.
posted by anomie 09 June | 11:54
Oh, Costa Rica doesn't have a chance, I think the shots were about 12-1 or so, just that Costa Rica's shot went in.

I'm enjoying the start of my month-long quadrennial producivity dip. :-)

Spoiler alert

Every time there is a goal, I'll post it.

Look away now.

radio five isn't broadcasting to non-Uk'ers sadly.

I'm keeping online tabs at cnn and bbc.

I need a tv at my job. :(

And, hell, even though the shots are badly outnumbered Germany's way...it's still only 2-1.

viva costa rica!

Even with the bars in this 'hood (pretty football/soccer centric), this is definitely one of those times I wished I had more than three channels on the tv.

Desktop feed? wow. *jealous*

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

Maybe I'll get up early tomorrow and go to a bar, I'm sure one will be open in Greenpoint (aka little Poland).

Germany locks it up... 4-2 at 87 minutes. Amazing shot.

SCORE FOR ECUADOR!!!! Off two heads!!

The Google front page (if you customize it with web-parts) has a really nice world cup update web-part.

anomie: try ESPN360, it's showing the live espn/espn2 feed of all the games. I have discovered that I get it free with Verizon dsl. Apparently there is a free preview trial period upcoming.

Goal Ecuador! Time's about up for the Poles.

And when I say "I'll update the score" I mean of course, "I will be unable to update the score". Thanks goodness for I Love Tacos.
