what should i wear to a summer wedding. [More:]the situ. is that a good friend from high school is marrying her boy this summer, back in virginia. the last time i bought a suit i was a marathon runner and i tipped the scales at about 140 ell-bees. now i'm a gimpy old man with a blown out knee and i row boats for fitness, so i weight more like 175 lubs. in other words:

i need a new suit.

i have a tailor in virginia. i don't have time to see the tailor. i don't have money for a bespoke suit, anyway. i don't know where to go clothes shopping in austin, tx. what about off-the-rack stuff? has anyone bought a suit online? j-crew has some nice looking summer weight stuff on sale right now. anyone have any experience with this? i fit really easily; the last time i bought a suit the guy told me that i (in my 175lb incarnation) have the dimensions of a fitting model for a couple of different designers, so i don't have a hard time finding stuff that fits nicely.
but still.. buying clothes online? i dunno. fine for t-shirts...

Unless you know which specific designers, I'd head down to your local department store and try some suits on. Plus, you'll need the pant length/hems done anyway.

Maybe you could go the store, find a brand that fits nicely and then buy it online. I would head down to the tailors once you get it.

Last summer wedding I went to, I wore a pale blue suit with a white straw hat.

All my suits are J. Crew, but the fit differs even among the different styles so I'm not even necessarily the same size in all of their suits (if it matters, I'm a girl). My point is, I don't think you should purchase a suit online even if you're pretty confident of your size. That's a pretty big investment not to try it on before buying.

J. Crew has stores too, maybe even in your area. Banana Republic has done well by my friends and they alter for free if you need cuffs made/removed/or anything.

I like tan linen or linen/cotton, if it matters.
