Hallelujah. (1 Brilliant Song, 34 Versions/Covers)
Nice. That is a brilliant song. Every time I hear it, I'm in awe at the lyrics.

Wait, wait, this is not the song I thought it was. Ignore previous comment.

Funny, I was just watching a rerun of Without A Trace that ended with a pretty song, and I was going "what is this song", and an Internet search revealed that it was Jeff Buckley's version. And then I click over here and see this post. Serendipity.

This is one of my "wallowing" songs. One the songs my husband threatens to take away when I can't seem to pull myself out of a funk. (Others include Verdi Cries by 10,000 Maniacs, that Tom Waits song that starts "leavin' my family, leavin' all my friends," and the Gary Jules version of Mad World. All good for a wallow.)

It goes like this: the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift --

So I had a friend over for dinner, it's winding down for the coffee... getting dark, and he spies my SO's guitar, asks if he can play it. Of course he can. What does he play? Guess. Ever since then I must say I think that Eric Rosenfield's version is the best one. ;)

Man, I love this song. I was going to be a snot and upload the Alison Crowe version, but I see it's already there. Ah well.

And Jrossi, that Tom Waits song you're singing is "Shiver Me Timbers." And it's a good 'un.

Also, I swear that it says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about me that my two favorite versions are Rufus and k.d. lang.

I used to like Jeff Buckley's version, but I think that's the one most commonly used in montages on crappy tv shows. So now I'm back to being a fan of the original.

Mine too 'pup.

I heard a K.D. Lang concert on the radio once, and during the talking-to-the-audience bit, to indroduce 'Constant Craving': "And now, a medly of my hit"
