07 June 2006

I just got a wine club delivery, and I was joking to the UPS guy that it's been a rotten day, so the delivery is much appreciated and maybe I'll start drinking early. [More:]And he laughed and said, "Before an executive decision is made, you mean? You'd be amazed at how much of this stuff I deliver to the courthouse."
That's funny. In HS/college vacas, I worked at a liquor store, and our weekly booze deliveries to the distinguished gentlemen in our town were staggering.

By the way, the "above the fold" part of your post reads like the start of a letter to Penthouse Forum.

So what did you get, other than a game of Hide the Salami with the UPS guy?

OMG! danf - I think you must have served on the deli boat with my husband in the War! That's where he told me he learned that game. . .

Let's see....

This month's shipment (in a very hard-to-open box) is...

2000 Leeuwin "Art Series" Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River -- "lovely aromas of cassis, plum, and hint of earth lead to a lush palate that picks up some raspberry notes"

2001 Signorello Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa -- "This blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 14% Cabernet Franc was aged for 23 months in a combination of different French oak barrels... Aromas of cassis, vanilla and cedar lead to a lush, inviting palate where black cherries come into play."

It's the "lush" shipment, it seems.

Damn, I need to figure out how to double-check these things on my new setup. Anyway.

I hadn't heard, rainbaby . . . to Baltimore I assume, yeah that'd be supagood. *goes to check it out*

I would like to say, however, that my guessing there was a 2001 cab in the box deserves a few gold stars.

You know, it's sooo refreshing to open this thread and realize I'm just one among many whose minds immediately leaped to "dirty story!".

Spares me having to think up the puns about corkscrews and bottoms up and wine having legs and such.

You all are sick sick sick!

I was more impressed with what she ordered - Leeuwin and Signorello are damn good. Wish I could afford that kind of hooch-by-mail.

My budget is only good for red blends with Angry Housewife or High Tailfin on the labels.

I used to work in the wine club/winery/wine retail business. Coming up with something different to say about every wine is really damn hard, especially if it's not exactly your favorite. "An underripe cabernet that tastes medicinal and smells like ripe horse manure and a bacterial infection" becomes "a wine that will only improve with age, with an earthy character and hints of eucalyptus and spice."
