Big Crash Outside My Window An Hour Ago. Went out to see a totaled Porsche in the middle of the intersection of Aloah and Broadway and a new Beetle on its side on the sidewalk in front of the building next to mine.
The guy in the Porsche got pulled out by people while the woman in the Beetle had to wait for the Fire Department to pull her out.

The Porsche driver was drunk--or so people thought--and he evidently took a hike.

Five minutes after the crash, we had five firetrucks, one aid car and seven police cars on scene.

And about fifteen firemen and as many police men.

Now there are four State Patrol cars out there and two or three unmarked cars and two police cars. Or so I can see from my window--I'm not much of a rubbernecker at accident scenes.

I suspect I'll have flashing lights outside most of the night at the big crime scene. Man, there is a lot of broken glass.

At least, no one got seriously hurt. Thank god for seatbelt laws, hmm ?

It's ten 'til midnight and hence 06-06-06 here. So, how was your evening ?

The Porsche driver left the scene?

Is that why there are so many police/state patrol people responding?

The Porsche driver took off down the street.

The State Patrol is doing the crime scene investigation for the Seattle Police from the looks of it.

I suppose they have expertise the police don't perhaps.

Man, when they pulled that VW upright, the whole passenger side door was stove in about a foot. That Porsche must have have been going so fast.

And this is on a residential street I ride my bike down.

God, if someone had been on the sidewalk at the corner when it happened, they could be dead right now.

That Porsche driver is in a world of trouble. The crash was bad enough but then taking a hike--talk about being up Shit Creek without a paddle.

He was certainly not thinking clearly, it's safe to say.

Ah, I went out and went down to the corner to see what the damage to the property was--remarkably little, as it turns out.

The policewoman I talked to said the the State Patrol was doing the investigation because this started on the freeway--which makes little sense as we are at least a half mile away and several side streets away from any off ramp.

When I asked if this was the outcome or related to a police chase, she said she didn't know and did not care to speculate. So, it's a mystery for the nonce.

I have been advised by some neighbors this morning that the Porsche was actually a Mazda. I hardly know my cars--I heard Porsche last night and took it for granted they knew what they were talking about.

There's a scrape on the pavement in the intersection about a foot long and two inches wide.

And I heard the guy who took off got caught. He was staggering after they pulled him out of his car and reeked of alcohol. Well, his life is forever changed.

The woman he hit was not really hurt. She had on her seat belt and the air bags deployed. The new Beetle is safer than the old.

I am currently favoring that the guy came off I-5 heading south at the Lakeview exit, ran south on Lakeview and under the freeway and upto where Belmont shoots over the freeway to Eastlake, took a left and ran up Belmont, circled left again around the plane tree in the triangle at Bellevue and Belmont and Summit and shot up right and east up to the intersection of Broqadway and Aloha, where he hit the woman VW who was making a left turn on to Aloha. Or so it would seem as the door on the passenger side was all stove in.

But how it landed on that side is the mystery to me.

Well, it certainly was one of those life doesn't like happen--it just happens moments.
