Let's go do stuff I just found out about meetin.org, and I'm in love. It's a great way to make new friends.[More:] I had never heard about the website until yesterday, when a good friend invited me along to a meetin.org outing. We took an hour-long zipline tour through cypress trees, something I'd never do by myself.

Meetin.org works like this - people post fun things to do (go out dancing, go caving, see a band,) and if you're interested, you RSVP and show up. I'm happily partnered and have a good group of friends, but I'm still excited to know that people on the interweb are arranging groups to do things that, in my day-to-day life, I'd never do.

There are chapters in all of the major US cities, and it's all free. I encourage anyone who is in a new city and is having trouble making new friends to join.
Yes, but is it tasty as Pepsi Blue?

The Vegas chapter looks fairly active. I joined.

Almost. But Pepsi Blue is some damn fine soda.

As far as I can tell, no one makes any money off of meetin.org. I know, my post sounds spammy, but only because I was that impressed by my experience with it, and I'm a bit giddy. I did something that was really scary for me (I'm terrified of heights) and it was really nice to have a random cheering section egging me on.

Meetin.org (notice the .org) really does seem like a good way to meet new platonic friends and do new things.

One of the most common complaints I hear from both my partnered and non-partnered friends is that it's hard to meet people in a new town, or after you've graduated from college. It's something I struggled with for a while until I made my own circle of friends in my new city.

I had a lot of fun, and it's probably the best use of the web that I've seen. People who like to do fun stuff connecting with other people who like to do fun stuff. If you can find a nefarious motive behind it all, I'd love to know, but my experience was all non-commercial and all good. All Pepsi, no blue.

Also - if anyone feels compelled to do a zipline tour, we went to http://www.cypressvalleycanopytours.com/.

Don't go if you're afraid of heights, even a little bit. The trip involves zipping through the tops of trees at high speed.

I'm just busting your chops fresh!

No offense taken. I'm a noob, and I gave a glowing recommendation to a website; sounds like spam to me.

Bookmarked. Thanks.

There's even a NYC "meetin" at the Beer Garden in Astoria on the 18th. Small world.

(Zipline tour sounds awesome, by the by.)

What a cool concept. I can't believe there's actually a Raleigh chapter! I bet that zipline thing was a blast.

I'll buy anything sold by someone with pr0n in his name!

Seriously, fresh, thanks. This looks interesting, and they have a local chapter!
