Scattergories Categories...help! I can't find my Scattergories game, and we want to play it after dinner tonight. I'm just going to make up my own categories...can you guys help? [More:]

Any category that would have multiple answers is good, and keep in mind that there are some teenagers playing as well, so pop culture stuff and not too much braniac will appeal, I'm guessing. All of the people playing are hardcore competitive board gamers who eat this stuff up, and none of them have ever played Scattergories.

If you don't know how to play, it's a blast, and goes by fast. You just pick a letter of the alphabet, and then write down something in each of the pre-assigned catergories that starts with that letter. When the agreed-upon time is up, everyone reads their answers, which is usually pretty hilarious. If you have a unique answer (that is, an answer that no one else came up with), you get a point. If your answer was also someone else's answer, no point. Whoever gets to a certain number first (we usually do 50) is the winner.

An example of a good Scattergories category:
Musical Instruments.

An example of a bad Scattergories category:
Welsh singers whose first name is Englebert.

Here are some of the categories I have, to give an idea of what I'm after:

colors
countries
songs with a person's name in the title
bands with one word names
dog breeds
fruits and veggies
things and places associated with south america (or whatever place...haven't decided that yet)
mythical creatures/monsters
math terms
animal homes
words that “re” can be added to the front to form a new word
cold drinks
authors
photography terms or equipment

That kind of thing. Whatcha got?

Also, what would be your answers for those categories if the letter drawn was B?
-sports - basketball
-types of toys - ball
-cartoon characters - Bugs Bunny
-horror movies - The Birds
-beer brands - Budweiser
-types of furntiture - bed
-kitchen appliances - blender

I love that game!

Things that would make good Scattergories categories

Added! That's hilarious.

We should figure out how to play Scattergories here somehow.

Wouldn't be too hard to whip up a scattergories IRC bot.

jrossi, I agree that Facts in Five is the better game. Those 3M/Avalon Hill bookshelf games, though, Point of Law and Image and Facts in Five and whatnot--were people smarter back then?

iconomy, don't you also get double points for alliterative answers? And you can't have, say, Boston for both a city and a musical group, right? Or Boston for a city, and then Boston baked beans for a food? I haven't played Scattergories in a while, though I'm definitely a fan.

blueblack, botswana, Bill Bailey, Brujeria, Boston terrier, bell pepper, Brazil, Benji, binomial, burrow, bound, B & B, Bill Bryson, Bolex
