Someone found the ceilingcat website which predates every other reference of ceilingcat on the web. And a wikipedia contributer claims to have taken the photo. This was worthy of a mefi post, why?
And ceilingcat has been appearing all over mefi the last ten days. Ever since that metatalk thread.

I flagged it as fantastic and also favorited it. I find that when I flag a post as fantastic, it serves as a death knell so perhaps I should have refrained from doing so.
I really had mixed feelings about the FPP, actually. I knew the best I could hope for was mixed reviews. Then again, it's a holiday weekend (at least in the U.S.), so I figured it might break up an otherwise slow day.
I notice that he first deleted mr crash's long blank comment, then the last thing before the deletion was Eide's long empty whatever. I think if it weren't for Eideteker, he might have left it. Let's lynch Eide. (I don't have anything better to do, do you?)
And a graphically competent MeFite flipped the image to create floor cat png and wall cat png. Wonderful!
If by "graphically competent" you mean I finally noticed that on WinXP's Picture Manager I don't need photoshop installed to rotate/crop images, then yes, that would be me.
This site is connected with Mefi and will always be, Alex. You didn't seem to care until you got banned. Either get a new account and keep your mouth shut about it, or just ignore these threads.
