I am making scalloped potatoes. The recipe calls for one clove of garlic, cut in half. You don't put it in the potatoes- you rub the pan with it, before you butter it. I love that.
Yeah, that's the way you do it.

You could even rub it around individual sald bowls if you want to get fancy,

And play that Loituma song while you rub the garlic. :)

Whooooooooa, don't wanna get too fancy now! I am making chicken and green beans, too- that's fancy enough for me.

wow, the only scalloped potatoes I ever had were the ones that came in a box that my mom would fix with pork chops. *shudders* I've been scared off 'em ever since, but mebbe I should try making myself from scratch after all these years...because what can be bad when the pan's rubbed with garlic?

From personal experience, Baked Brown Sugar Sweet Potatoes. Two great tastes that do NOT go great together. A classic example of "no, THAT goes in THAT pan, not THAT pan."

I like potatoes and I like cheese, but I don't like scalloped potatoes. It makes no goddam sense.

By the way, I need to go get something to eat. Thanks for reminding me.

Mmm, garlic.

I HAVE MUCH GARLIC IN MY GARDEN, IT IS VERY USEFUL. YES HI HELLO. HOW ARE YOU, GENTLEMEN?
Speaking of fine cuisine, did you know that if you add a little V-8 juice to a can of Chef-Boy-R-Dee Ravioli, you can blend it enough to slurp it up through a straw?

I'm NEVER going to make four weeks.

To me it does. I like both, but somehow cheese and potatoes don't go together right. Although I may one day allow Amro to persuade me otherwise with some cheese fries.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago in a pound shop (dollar store) and it's awesome. Perfect paper/wafer thin slices of garlic.

Yes! I will make you a believer.

I eat far too much of the cheese/potatoes combo, especially considering the clogged artery problems on both sides of my family. Right before I moved I discovered that the Mexican restaurant down the street from where I got my cheese fries makes a wicked potato and cheese chimichanga with guacamole on top. Heaven. I explored my new 'hood yesterday and found some promising potential cheese and potato vendors, who are unfortunately probably closed to further exploration today.

essexjan: I've got one of those mini-mandolines, too. I like to slice up a whole bowl of garlic then fry it in oil like little potato chips.

The scalloped pototaes I made had no cheese- just cream and milk, baked for a little over an hour. Mmmmm mmmm. I have leftovers, too, so that's what I'll be eating for lunch tomorrow, yaay!
