huh [More:]
A woman stopped by this morning wanting to add my yard to some sort of garden tour. It is a bit of a mess right now so there is no way I wanted it on there this year (first week of June) but I let her have my number and they'll call me before next year. *shrug*

Don't knock it. Lots of people love dandelions!

I for one, love dandelions. I think they're just fine as a garden, and used to try and convince my ex-mother in law to section off a part of hers just for the dandelions.

Anyone who needs help appreciating them should read Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hahn - excellent chapter on dandelions and their inherent importance.

My garden is on a local garden tour, wtatudc, it's fun. There's an opportunity to sell stuff, too. People snap up any little potted-up starts you have, and .. for example... a friend of mine who is a potter has a display in my garden during the tour. He always sells a bunch of his work.

It's good to keep a couple of pet dandelions. If you remove (and DON"T compost, fer heaven's sake, the seeds will survive) the fluffy seedheads, they're a fine addition to the garden. I like the plucky little flowers, and also enjoy the bitter greens in the early spring. The cool thing that dandelions do is the subsoiling action that happens when their roots get going.

anecdote.. dandelions and burdocks dug my potato bed this year. I planted the burdocks and the dandies just appeared. I pulled them up, and I had nice deeply "dug" ground.

Go for it next year. Accept the compliment and enjoy the side benefits of tourists in your garden.

:)
