HOLY CRAP A SNAKE! I came home from a walk with Silver and found this on my front porch. Kinda cute for a snake, really.
I should add that that's a macro shot. It wasn't really big.

Great photo! Pretty snake, too. Does the yellow line continue all the way to the tail?

Mine does. : )

Yeah it does, Hugh. Some kind of garter snake I imagine, and I think he recently shed since he was so brightly colored.

Your photos are beautiful.

who is silver?

Are we talking about me or the snake? My new skin's so smooth...

(Pretty snake, though. I'm rather fond of snakes and reptiles in general. Held a baby alligator in Florida once; he felt like an alligator bag -- imagine that. He did not like having his jaws taped shut, though.)

Good thing mudpuppie's not online today.

That's probably the cutest snake I've ever seen.

Silver is my puppy. He's on my flickr page too.

Buddy a mine breeds emerald tree boas, green tree pythons (plus a few other Amazon basin varieties), Kenyan sand boas, and a rainbow of corn snake flavors, plus the odd gecko, iguana, and Russian tortoise. Feeding time is wicked. He has about a hundred different snakes. I've only been bitten once while snake-handling, and that was because I wasn't drinking beer at the time.

Snakes are scary.

Garter of some sort, tell me where you live and I'll tell you what kind it is. I want one of these myself.
I bet it is this one, if you live in an area where they are found.

It is really common.
Huh, never knew garter snakes were so pretty!

Eekasnake!

Even within one particular type of garter, you can have a lot of color variation. I have seen common eastern garden snakes that were really dull and I have seen some that were absolutely glowing with color. I saw a really vivid one last year in an area that was being cleared and burned off for development, I wanted to catch it and release it elsewhere as I knew it was likely going to be killed by heavy equipment or fire, but it went into a mole tunnel. Perhaps it found a way out of the lot.
I did not click on that picture and I do not take iconomy's word for it that the snake was "cute."

Slithering death is never cute.

Someone said exactly that last night in IRC about a different context.

As if the pup could go off at any moment, or sumthin. Maybe y'all know stuff I don't.

Well, mudpuppies and snakes are enemies...

I'm in Colorado Weretable, so I bet you're right. He was a placid guy, and wandered off on his own.

I think this is fairly well established.

And I probably don't want to know what y'all were talking about last night, so I'll just try to put it out of my mind.

Except if I do that, I start thinking about snakes.

Fuck. Can't win.

Um, um . . .

Just random boy-girl stuff and we all jumped down someone's throat on your (well our own, actually) behalf. I don't remember the exact exchanges. . .but it was just funny that someone TODAY said the same thing in a different context.

Well, I'm sure that you totally served my interests and protected my honor.
