I bought a 60GB iPod last night and as you well know, I have more than enough music to fill it, but when I got home I found out, to my suprise, that all the ports on my box are USB 1.0, so basically the 50-odd gigs of music are loading while I sit here and slave away. *sigh* But, I got one and an Apple Hi-Fi. Thank you IRS!
During my iPod debacle, I had mine loading USB 1.0.... man that took a long time. And I don't have nearly as much music as you. Good luck to you!

Nice, I guess one has to die for another to be born. Because my shit seems to have fully fucking died last night.

when I left the house this morning it was around 6000 files in, got roughly 10,000 to go, but it's worth it. This way I can torture my bar buddies with my (I'm told) often baffling tastes while we drink.

the Apple Hi-Fi thing is gonna be sweet, too. Just dock that baby in there in the living room and have 37 days (that's what iTunes tells me) ready to blare way while lay on the couch swilling beer naked and posting to MeCha. Yes, that is how I intend to spend my layoff/vacation/spiritual retreat.

I'm just gonna either hire a mariachi band to follow me around or get a portable victrola, I'm sick of the ipods breaking on me.

I could just yell off-key in your ear all day if that helps.

PCI firewire card. No prob.

I have a narrator, who walks around with me and describes my movements and some of my thoughts before I speak. She makes it hard to fall asleep at night. But that has nothing to do with her narrating; she's usually off the clock by then.

Next purchase, probably. But I'm just gonna let it load for now, since the fuckers basically gonna be full when it's done and I'll have enough tunes to keep me occupied for a while.

she's usually off the clock by then.

She's moonlighting, narrating for my Hindu neighbors, but sometimes she confuses the narratives and screws up everyone's day.

Dawg, a USB2 card is like 10 bucks, and you will appreciate it when you're ready to leave the house and iTunes is going "iPod update in progress... you might want to get a chair"

Hell, if you put it on your amazon whishlist, somebunny would probably buy it for you.

Jon, You luddite. My image of you is totally blown ;) Congrats on the new iPod. You'll absolutely love it.

Hey, congratulations.

(Re: USB2 vs FireWire cards) Am I crazy, or do 5th-gen iPods no longer use FireWire?

Also, Apple Hi-Fi, really? You're the first person I've heard of who's bought one of those.

Jon, You luddite.

Dude, I spend all my time on the internet. How Luddite could I be ;>? (I still own a lot of 45's and 33's if that helps).

Well, currently, my PC is jacked into the auxilliary port of my component system in a tiny room in the front of our apartment, so when me & pips want to listen to music on my hard drive we either have to sit all cramped or run in and out of the room everytime we want to change a song, so it seemed worth it.

Neo-Luddite, perhaps. Remind me to show you my recording of Perry Mills delivering the Neo-Luddite Manifesto at the Seattle IICS meeting. Hoot!

I'm feelin' the Hi-Fi idea!

I, erm, seem to have misplaced my 60 gig iPod. I had it last night, I'm sure, but by this morning it had grown legs and walked away by itself.

Or *looks at jonmc* DID IT? Where were you last night, jon? On the West Coast, perchance? Hmmmm?

Don't be silly. If I was ever in California, the sun would surely turn my pale northeastern Irish self to ash within minutes.

Nice try, Jon. As I live in Vancouver, where even now it is pissing with rain and unseasonably cold, your pale Irish self would be in no more danger of turning to ash than my pale Irish self is.

You are now prime suspect Number 1 in the (temporary, I hope) disappearance of what, with a singular lack of imagination, I refer to as Poddy-pod.

Was yours black? (the iPod, I mean)
posted by jonmc 24 May | 18:36
Okay, you're off the hook, Mr. mc. Turns out poddy was hiding underneath a copy of the New Yorker. What the hell it was thinking, I don't know.

I had to write a profile of myself yesterday so they can feature me in our department newsletter (no, fucked if I know why either) and I had to specify my most prized posession and why. I said my iPod, because it drowns out the voices in my head. Not sure if that was a good career move.

Oh, how I wish I could get a bigger iPod than my 20GB - the agony I go through to choose which 20GB to put on is almost as painful as it is stupid.
