Hey Metachatters! Let's fold some proteins! [More:]So I read this comment on Mefi about protein folding and checked out Folding@Home and it seemed like a great way help out a great cause so I signed up. I thought that maybe some of you might be interested as well so I created a new Folding@Home team called the Folding_Bunnies specifically for Metachat members or lurkers who might want to pitch in.

If you're interested, all you have to do is download and run the application and when it asks you if you'd like to join a team, enter #50514. Happy folding!
Running it now, it seems to use about the same amount of memory as task manager. I don't see anything on the team stats page though.

I don't see anything on the team stats page though.

I don't think the team stats will update until Folding@Home collects the data from finished work units, so it may take some time before the stats begin to appear.

Sounds like a good cause - when I get home, I will add our three computers to the team.

I don't want to be the naysayer / grinch / grump here, but I'm slightly concerned about the extra carbon these "distributed" projects use. I'm pretty sure that it'd be a whole lot more (by a factor) than if the protein folding and alien searching were calculated locally.
