A mosquito bit me on the eyelid last night while I slept.[More:]
It also bit me on the insides of both arms and on my left ring finger. I got out of bed and just sat there, for two hours, with a rolled up newspaper in my hand, waiting, eyes peeled for the slightest movement.

After a couple of fruitless ceiling swipes, I noticed the little fucker on the wall a foot away. I carefully smashed the life out of its little insect body, leaving a red streak (of my own blood) on the wall and a black streak on my karma.

I hate killing insects. Why did you have to bite me, of all places, on my eyelid, little fellow?

I look like I got hit with a soft brick.
and a black streak on my karma.
I think you are morally in the clear going after a parasite that STOLE YOUR BLOOD.

But if our roles were reversed, I'd be stealing his blood all the time.

I'd have the common decency not to plunge my proboscis into his eyelid, though. That shit's just rude.

Hey man, go easy on yourself. You were just letting her know that the buffet was CLOSED.

Boy skeeters don't bite.

I smooshed a giant ant on my carpet last night. Rupert saw it first; he was very interested.

Is this an insect thread, or an injury thread? Because I've got both covered.

Insects: I went for a walk late-ish last night and discovered that 11:30 is the time that all the beetles come out. Yep, it was like beetle gridlock on the sidewalks. They were all headed the same direction, too, which makes me think something interesting was going on somewhere, a convention or something.

Injury: This was a couple hours after I walked into the 5# weight I use as a doorstop and summarily broke my toe. It hurts quite a bit today, but being in bed was the worst -- couldn't keep the sheets from touching it.

They heard BeetleMania was making a comeback.

Oh no, Hugh, that's awful! We went to the beer garden last night, and others were getting eaten up fierce- the bugs avoided moi, of course, even though I am oh so sweet :-D

Hugh, I use one of these to kill mosquitos and it really does work. It also kills crane flies (hooray!).

Oooh, mudpuppie, I bet that hurts.

I found a tick on my leg this morning. I cleaned up my concord grape row, which I neglected last fall - it was full of tall weeds and such and I am sure I picked him up while doing that. I flushed him down the toilet. Swim, little tick! Swim straight to hell!

Also I have an ingrown toenail again, which is as close as I can get to the broken toe thing. Also I have been doing a lot of gardening the last few days including working around roses and several other thorny/sticky shrubs and I rarely wear gloves since they get in the way... my hands look nice and chopped up. Little cuts, scrapes and scratches all over them.
I have killed at least a hundred flies in the last week. If there is a Fly God, I will surely be tortured for eternity.

This happened to me... jon thought I was nuts, turning on the light and searching the ceiling in the middle of the night. But I was desperate, I tell ya, desperate. They never bite him, for some reason.

cmonkey: my mom gets huge black flies in the kitchen whenever she makes cabbage, especially in summer -- they appear outta nowhere (are there fly dimensions?); perhaps you can appease the Fly God with cabbage.

cmonkey, are they coming out of your floorboards again?

Also, there's no stain on your karma for killing bugs in your house, Hugh. A wise holy man when asked "Isn't is wrong to kill anything which means I shouldn't kill the bugs in my house?" replied with distain "You should kill the bugs! How else you gonna get your house clean?"

That and it's fun to sing "Bye Bye Bundy, Bye Bye" while watching them roast themselves on the bug-zapper.

Mmmm... barbecued bugs.

Don't kill the crane flies! They're beneficial insects!

Hugh, I feel your pain. I've been bitten on the eyelid too. I normally don't react to mosquito bites but this skeeter had particularly nasty venom. The bite swelled up so badly I couldn't open my eye.

I was once bitten on my lip by a skeeter right before I had to go work a midnight to eight shift as a doorman, I looked awesome and gnarly, like a supercaveman who went way overboard on free lip silicon, but I felt like a monster. No one noticed.
