Looking at the general level of maintenance around the place, it's probably just as well most of the rides were closed.

This reminds me a lot of a roadside amusement park north of Austin that we used to pass by in the late 70s and early 80s. Family road trips, you know. The place always scared the shit out of me, even though we never stopped. Must have had the same effect on others, because before it was demolished it was used as the set of Texas Chainsaw Massacre II. (Which I still need to see, just to revisit that horrid place in my memory.)

When amusement parks die, they die hard.

I went to one in Afrlington, VA, when i lived there. It became an artist colony (fantastic) and the merry-go-round and dance hall are still used(circa 1930s)! It's the most restful place to walk on a Sunday afternoon. The artist "houses" look like little thatched hobbit houses. There is such beautiful sculpture and jewelry and more there. This place should be a model for all closed parks!
