TPS' Variety Show: a review. So I don't usually come by here but I since I was the only one of us there, I had to post a review.
Guys, she's a natural! I hang out with a lot of theatre folk and know whereof I speak: she was terrific.
The cabaret was this great place on restaurant row, dark and cramped and intimate. The troupe did a series of skits and performances - there was a magician, and two guys singing about the way we all change cars on the subway when confronted with a potentially dead vagrant, a couple of skits filled with knowing, affectionate NY jokes about Jews and gays. I saw TPS in two skits (got there late so dunno if there was more) - one where she played the female half of a couple arguing in a store over buying a big screen TV and one in which she was an actress auditioning to impersonate a senator. The skits themselves were fun, but she was great in them. Lots and lots of stage presence.
Afterwards, I asked the magician about that trick that generated all the agita on askme - the one where the patsy holds a card and it changes without the magician touching it. (It happened to me once too.) He said he knew it and knew how it was done but wouldn't tell me. He and I both used to drink at a bar on 23rd st that was the city's magician's hangout 10 years ago and he tipped me to the new one, which I can't wait to go to, even though it's in Astoria. Then TPS's giant crew of fans and I went to a bar around the corner where I got into a drunken philosophical conversation and probably annoyed hell out of a very nice tall blonde Lutheran pastor, and then got into an even more outrageous and deeply, deeply pornographic conversation with some strangers on the street about how much women should shave, given the state of porn these days. That was after they showed me the strap-on they had just bought. I'd never seen one and it was, um, strappier, than I expected. You gotta love NYC!
Anyway - very fun night and you all shoulda been there.

Crap, TPS. I completely forgot to wish you luck yesterday. Glad to hear it went well!

Okay, I know that there's not supposed to be any self-promotion here, but this is something I would have loved to catch. Let us know next time, okay?

Did I miss a post somewhere, it's likely...

But I didn't know there was a rule against self promotion on metachat.

I thought there was an overarching principle at play, which is don't be a jerk to people. Uh, which is to say, that I thought that if you could be nice about it, you could pretty much post what you wanted (including self promotion, etc).

Aside: Good Job, PinkSuperhero!

I didn't post about it on Metachat- I thought about it, and I think it just slipped my mind? And yea, I don't think a little self-promotion is against the rules, for those of us who call Metachat our home. If someone just came in and was like COME TO MY SHOW that'd be ridic, but for those of you I know, I want to know what you're doing, so I can put it on my calendar. I promise to remember you all next time.
