Say It Ain't So, Mike! Mike Tyson is my favorite boxer – period! But now he has hurt me to my heart should this become true. “Iron” Mike is rumored to be trying to join an Irish boy band Westlife. I heard the former KO King also contacted the group’s manager to get the ball rolling. According to this legend, Mike will be willing to allow his unique voice to be digitally enhanced to improve upon the recording experience. On top of this, the band is receptive to having Mike on the team as one group member recently left. Hey, I’d buy it if Mike was rappin’ to a big beat. But, it’s a boy band and I’m not a boy.

Better singing in a boy band than eating people's faces.
I'm trying to picture Mike's voice on some love song, and it's just not coming to me man. Although both Ali & Frazier recorded halfway decent singles and Tony Conigliaro recorded a bad one (and supposedly Deacon Jones did too) so it's not impossible...

Mike is your favorite boxer?

Mine's Django "Gummer" Macnamara. World flyweight champ from 1892-1893. A short career but man that guy was tough, once rather than win by forfeit when his opponent didn't show up he went out into the street and provoked a fight with six "Charmoin Vainglorie" gangmembers, the most violent and constitutionally least sensitive to pain gang in all of Peoria, he got them to chase him back into the boxing ring (He merely walked up to them and asked if "any of you lovely ladies know would be willing to wetnurse my young son while I enjoy a boxing match") and there defeated them all in a 29 round bareknuckle fight. After the fight was over he bought them each a "miniature" racing donkey (all the rage with the bouilvadiers at the time) out of the prize purse, leaving only enough money for a train ticket back to Philadelphia for himself. Later in his career he fought in both the "Fracas in Caracas" and the "Set To in Soetto", sustaining severe wrist injuries in the last which ended his career, he walked off into the Nevada desert with a pocketful of "Tea Bisquits" and was never seen again.

Joe Frasier, rest in peace.

d_w, he was quoting the site verbatim, so perhaps he has better taste than to call Iron Mike his fav. =)
My Dad was a big boxing fan when I was a kid. He always said that pound for found, Sugar Ray Leonard was the best. I was always an Ali man myself, probably cause to a kid he seemed like a superhero.

Speaking of favorite boxers, I just put this picture of Floyd Patterson up on my bulletin board here. R.I.P. Mr. Patterson.

And I dunno about Tyson Sings for Boys and Girls. He must be bored. Either that or he's trying to show the world (or a girl, I mean, let's get real here) what a sweet charmer he's become.

I made up my favorite, although I am also partial to Ali and Mr. Patterson.

I do feel sorry for the guy, I suspect most of his weird/bad behavior is due to brain damage.

Here is my favorite.
He's an Arkansan!
I met Sugar Ray Leonard when I was in high school. See, for a couple years I dated this girl who went to Catholic school nearby and who was best friends with Wes Unseld's daughter (who was a real boulder off the old mountain). They lived in Potomac, MD, "across" the "street" from the Leonards, and Sugar Ray came to a party (it might have been her sixteenth) at the Unseld's. I remember being less intimidated by Ray Leonard than I was by Wes Unseld.

IllSeed's got some, uh, interesting priorities. Mike didn't break his heart when he date-raped Desiree Washington, when he beat Robin Givens, when he appeared in that 'Black and White' movie or when the end of 'Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!' turned out to be really anticlimactic. But joining a played-out boy band? Oh, that's beyond the pale.

A girl? Methinks it might have something to do with the IRS.

Boxing is such an interesting sport - I especially love to speculate on match-ups of boxers from different eras.

Ali, for example, is simply the most breath-taking athlete I've ever seen. But, as much as it saddens me, he would be pummeled by Lennox Lewis. Ali, in his prime, usually weighed in around 210 - 220. Against Foreman, he weighed in at 216.5lbs with Foreman at 220lbs. Lewis hasn't fought below 240lbs since 1995 and wouldn't be giving up too much handspeed to Ali.
