I got my first Metatalk thread closed. Wooo. I didn't even read the whole thing- I think some people suggested I be banned from the site? I think that would be AWESOME.

Some would argue that you're winning it. The game, I mean.

I have had a couple of them closed (both Mefi posts and MeTa posts). Lesse... one post was just a dot, after someone made a post bitching about one-word FPPs, that was deleted and Matt scolded me. I forget what the other FPP was, but it was a long time ago under my old username and it was deleted. The MeTa posts... not sure what the first one was, but I remember there were two. The other was the Garfield post of course.

Well, I broke metafilter for the first time earlier today...

Metafilter is surprisingly easy to break. For example, try using an 'A' tag whose attribute use mixed quotes, e.g. (note the ' vs. ")

Last I saw this fucks the whole rest of the page.

I'm proud of my deleted post dammit. Its symbolic now of exactly how misunderstood I felt at the time. ;) I posted about my domain being hijacked (linking google so you could see what the description was of the Casiono website theif, rather than my domain) - not due to any fault of mine - it was paid and locked etc. Then I got called out in Meta for "self-link-by-stealth". *gigglesnort*
Stealth huh? Totally not stealthy dudes. I thought it was interesting (for metafilter geeks) as the domain had changed hands at root level. I was still listed as owner at the registrar. I thought it was a hell of lot more interesting than those FPP's where some dolt forgot to renew their damn domain and the all of metafilter comes running to their aid when they lost it to some jerk that sold porn online or whatever. Sheesh, mine was actually hijacked overnight, not lost due to my own damn fault!
I think the deletion text was something like "Metafilter as tech support? No."

This was years ago. Apparanty I can carry a grudge for a stupid long time. ;)

Oh, my point was you ain't a real mefioso until you have:
- Gotten an FPP deleted
- Been called to metatalk
- Been told to get your own blog
- Gotten a Metatalk thread closed
- Pissed off Quonsar
- Been pissed off by Quonsar

Sounds like that should have stayed. I missed it. However I seemed to have been there evry darn time someone made a "ir vibrates?" joke. Hell I made one myself. Add that to the list, you are not a mefioso until you crack an in-joke at an apropriate time.

I've come close to doing a banworthy flameout on many occassions. The last one was just yesterday after ThePinkSuperhero's metatalk thread was closed. I was going to post a new metatalk post with Does NYC suck or what? then the more inside would have been... or should I have posted this to Ask?

It is on a post-it for possible future use. Sometimes Matt blesses us in the reasons for closing/deleting threads.
