Dress Mike up! I need shoe suggestions.[More:]
I'm looking for some casual jeans and t-shirt shoes that aren't sneakers. I have some kickass black shoes to wear with nicer shirts but they're too dressy for t-shirts.

I have almost no criteria except that they aren't white. Dazzle me! (Thanks.)
Do you prefer lace-ups or slip-ons?

I've never owned slip-ons but I'm not ruling anything out.

I like these.

Shoes are like Marmite - you either love 'em or hate 'em. I used to pick out shoes for my ex-husband that I thought were the mutt's nuts and he used to recoil in horror at my choice.

I have a pair of these (in black) that I love, love love. If I'd seen them in red, I would have gotten that color.

Haha.

Wait. I am half alseep and I thought this was Dress Miko up!. Nevermind.

Um....maybe a different pair of Docs then.

In order of kookiness, I like these, these and these. Any guy who would wear that last pair would totally steal my heart.

Shoes that aren't sneakers (or dress shoes)? You mean boots?

As I see it, for men, there are four major shoe groups: Sneakers, boots, dressy, and sandals. Since I live on a hippiefied college campus, people wear sandals all throughout the year. But you won't catch me dead in them unless I am actually going to swim somewhere. I wear boots almost all the time (Caterpillar makes a wide array of very comfortable "Walking Machines", though since I have stopped being gainfully employed, I've worn my dress-shoes to oblivion by turning them into slip-ons (I just don't untie the laces; how decadent) when I don't feel like boots. Though I wore nothing but from infancy through til HS, I seldom wear sneakers anymore (blame the grunge fad of the 90s for my fulltime boot conversion, and then Caterpillar for making them comfy enough for everyday wear). I only put on my hightop sneaks for workout/sporting purposes.

Nothing makes me want to punch someone so much as the khaki shorts and sockless loafers preppie look. Put some goddamn socks on, and get some laces, mister, unless you're going to the beach; and in that case see *SANDALS.

I can see you in these. Although I suppose that technically they're sneakers.

Someone on AskMe always recommends Fluevogs (zappos link). I don't have any because they don't appear to make large widths, but I think they're very cool for semi-casual shoes.

Thanks everybody - I'm in and out (mostly out) all day today so I will have to follow all your links later, but I definitely appreciate the suggestions!

Will post pics whenever I decide.

I should clarify. By "not sneakers", I mean "not athletic shoes". Vans and the like are fine.

My man owns a pair of Steven Madden shoes that are sort of a dressy casual. Here's a bunch more styles - I can't find the particular pair he owns, but it's similar to these ones.

He also owns a pair of these which look really manly with jeans or khakis. In fact, most of the "Dr. Marten" causal shoes are what un-sneakers.

why not go with these classics (top of page)?

Hey, I do like the Docs, Krix. I've got an older style of their Mary Janes in navy, but without the double strap.

I wear Cydwoqs. They honestly do not look as... medieval in person as they do in photos. I love these shoes and now have 6 pair (including one pair of boots). Eager to get a pair of sandals at the moment, and one of their satchels. No exageration, strangers (usually women) compliment me on them just about every single day.

They're comfortable, each pair is unique (they're hand made), the leather ages really well, the soles can be replaced... been wearing them for about 4 years and have zero complaints about them. Worn 'em with suits, jeans, casual wear. I pretty much don't buy anything else anymore.

Shoes are like Marmite - you either love 'em or hate 'em.

The first time I scanned this, I read, "Shoes are like Mefites- you either love 'em or hate 'em."

I should have waited to post that comment before I found out if they had it in my size. Dammit. Will hopefully find it elsewhere.
