OMG Cygnets!!! They've hatched! Six little balls of fluff, for the time being hiding under Mrs Swan's wing. Sadly mr alto has gone away for the weekend and taken his camera with him, so I have no way to bring you teh cute today.

Mr Swan is looking very proud and is not nearly so aggressive now they're hatched.

just in case you don't know what I'm talking about

On a related note, I saw a female mallard and 14 tiny ducklings, lost on a main street in the city centre the other evening. Drunk people from a nearby pub were trying gently to herd them down a side-street towards the stream. People are so nice sometimes.

Fantastic! The swans I see at lunchtime are still sitting on their eggs, but hopefully they'll hatch in the next few days.

The really cool thing is that (I think) they all hatched yesterday evening, at the same time, whereas swans lay their eggs at a rate of one every day or two. Can't work out how that synchronization works.
