GloatFilter So I went on a fitness binge this month... Results:[More:]
Lean mass: up 7.5 pounds
Body fat: down 16.6 pounds
Mile time: original: 7:34, now: 5:25
Running endurance: vastly increased
Swimming endurance: vastly increased (been swimming about three miles a week)
Bench press: up 46%

And I feel AMAZING. It feels so good, that I actually changed some hotel reservations, just so I could stay at a place with a gym and a pool.

I just have to say, goddamn! It's amazing what can be done in a month, if you work your ass off!

I actually took some of the suggestions in my original thread, and effectively did triathalon training, played in two pickup soccer games, and went kayaking.
Woo woo, good job! You deserve a taco!

Nice work! Soccer's fun. Training for it makes it more fun. Kayaking is great for your midsection. Awesome.

By the way, I love tacos, I Love Tacos.

You used to be able to run at 7 minute mile BEFORE you started working out?

I'm not sure I can run a 10 minute mile.

That's excellent. Once I'm over the surgery I'm having next week, I plan on getting fit. I lost 20lbs when George died, through the shock, over about 3 weeks, but it's gone back on in the last three months, plus another 10 - comfort/stress eating.

Your results are a wonderful spur to me. Weight training has always given me good results, so I'll dig that Body for Life book out and hit that for a few weeks as a kick-start, once I'm able to start some physical activity, that is.

Way to go! (Although I weep for all the tacos that will now be unloved.)
Soccer players are sexy. It's a fact.

In one month? Holy cow. Great job!

Oh shit, I have to start training for this. I am entered in the Mens 40-49 5k event and I am overweight, out of shape and haven't run any distance for years. At this stage, I am setting my goal as being able to beat the guy in my department who walks with a cane.

Holy shit, I just started running again after a long layoff, and 9 minute miles (and only 5 of them) are killing me.

Most impressive, sir! One taco for you!

That's awesome Tacos! You're making me want to start working out again.

PinkSuperhero: I'm a fat yuppie bastard these days, but I ran a ton when I was younger. I'm still pretty spry, when I'm motivated :-)

essexjan: the best part really is how much better I feel. I thought that a month of serious exercise would leave me wanting a break, but instead I just want more. I hope you can gloatfilter about how great you feel too, once you've recovered a bit!

jrossi4r: Oh, I still love me some tacos. Don't you worry about them at all!

Miko: actually, 3 days shy of a month ;-)

gaspode: I can't string 5 of those five and a half minute ones together! For five miles, I'm looking at 7-8 minute miles, if I'm willing to push it hard. I suggest you listen to faster music, and see if that fixes things.

lunaticfringe: DO IT! I'd totally forgot how good it feels to be working out regularly.

Speaking of fitness, this guy is still doing the London Marathon (he started last Sunday!) and he reached the stretch outside our office today. An email came round the building half an hour before he was due, and we all went out and cheered him on, as his volunteers collected money from us.

He's done the Marathon a few times in a deep-sea diving suit, and is a cancer survivor.

Hero.

essexjan: I *LOVE* that guy!!

I knew about the old-school deep-sea diving suit, but the armor and dragon is just fantastic.
posted by I Love Tacos 27 April | 16:43
He chose the armour and the dragon because 23 April, when this year's marathon started, was St George's Day.

After a fat winter, I've been hitting salads and exercising regularly for the last three weeks and have lost 5 pounds as a result. I hope to keep going for another 10...

Congrats I Love Tacos! I recently went on a bit of a fitness binge myself (I finally joined the gym across the street from my house and am actually going on a regular basis) and although I haven't noticed too many inches dropping off I feel pretty darn good. I'm a bit miffed that a recent health problem is keeping me from working out actually. I miss the gym! I thought I'd never be able to say that.

Keep up the good work. I am jealous of your mighty five minute mile!

ILT, what have you been eating?
posted by dobbs 27 April | 19:10
creatine tacos!
posted by Hellbient 27 April | 21:50
Sadly, I haven't been on an all taco diet.

Instead, I've just been eating a totally normal mix of foods (though probably a bit more restaurant food than average).

Soccer! Excellent! I was wondering about the results. Kudos! Kudos! Tacos!
