Check the IRC FAQ on the wiki... There's an online Java client that is kind of sucky but that you can use.

So what happened to the link on the left side of the main page that displayed who/how many were in IRC? I haven't been in there in a while due to illness but enjoyed seeing the stats.

miles, #metachat went away for various reasons. The sidebar list was tied to that channel.
