do you view most webpages with the browser window totally maximized? or to what extent maximized? this is a serious question (for a change.) feel free to turn it into a joke after you answer. ktksbye!
...'cuz, see, i view almost all webpages with my 'Net browser at about 75% of the total screen size, and I just realized that my webpage and 'blog look totally different than what i'd thought if other people usually view them at full-screen size.

I usually view it full-screen, unless I'm multi-tasking, in which case it's usually the bottom 50-45% of the screen.

I usually have the browser at about 95% full-screen size, so that I can click beside the window to go to whatever is behind.

Full screen.

all maximized, all the time. of course, i have a 12.1" laptop screen.

i keep shortcut icons around the perimeter of my desktop, so if windows are slightly minimized, i can always reach around with the cursor to click open my shortcuts.

also, at work multi-multi-tasking with a half-dozen (minimum) screens up all day long, i somehow feel more in control if the windows don't take up the whole screen. the windows seem to be in perspective and are less overwhelming and more 'hell, it's just work.'

At home, maximized on one monitor (of two), and plain old maximized at work, but never, in either case, in fullscreen mode (called kiosk mode sometimes--try hitting F11 if you don't know what I mean).

Maximized, yes.

wow! F11... learn something new every day, thanks. i'm always afraid to punch the 'F' buttons in case one is the emergency self-destruct.

which is actually a damn good idea for some people:

"hit F13 to melt hard-drive when cops break down door..."

All maximized, all the time.

All maximized, all the time. I make good use of alt-tab or cmd-tab to switch between programs.

100% to the max, I would set it at 110% if I could.

& F11 is for pr0n.

50%, but I have a 22" wide screen, so 100% width would make most poorly-coded sites (nearly all sites) look blah.

98%. If I'm settling in to read something and I want a lot of screen real estate, I skip maximized and go right to full-screen. Otherwise, a maximized window is a bit stifling to me.

Fully maxed. And I don't use a sidebar either, just the smallest taskbar I can get away with.

I have a g5 20" screen and view webpages at 80% of my screensize. Which is wide, but I never go full size even on laptops because I have a habit of clicking on windows behind when I want them. Also, I keep an eye on my term windows that do stuff at all times. So I need to see them.

I positivly despise any webpage that goes full screen on me, and usually turn back only to never visit again.

I like everything maximised. Otherwise the menu bar gets confusing if there's a maximised window behind the one you're working on.
posted by nomis 20 April | 05:26
Maximised. All the way. I have a simple mind, see. More than one window visible at one would make my brain go haywire.

full screen. and I dumped my stumble toolbar too.
posted by chewatadistance 20 April | 07:40
I bought a 24" widescreen monitor exactly so I wouldn't have to view things maximized. It makes my inner geek shriek with delight.

My browser usually takes up the left-hand 40% or so.

thanks folks!

(*scratches head, wonders about code that makes columns look the same regardless of browser size, gives up like a neanderthal trying to roll a square wheel*)

Dammit mike9322, I have screen envy now.

shane, you're looking for a width attribute.

excuse me! i've never had any complaints about width OR length. not that i'm, like, ron jeremy, or would ever want to be.
