Ok, someone smart with numbers, hep me out. Is there a way to figure out how many poster-hours it would take to reach that number, assuming a 30 second delay between comments? Is it possible to figure out the optimal configuration for reaching 11,520 without knowing the number of posters or the time?
Users (u) can make 1 comment (c) every 30 seconds (.5 min), i.e. 2 comments/min (the rate, r).
So c = r * u * t
And we know c = 11,520. And r = 2/min.
Solving for tmin:
t = c / (r * u)
t = 5,760 / u
So the if u = 5,760, t = 1 min. However, 5,760 commenters could actually do it in 1 second, assuming the traffic did not crash the site (can we assume that?). So the formula does not stand.
I have, however, succeeded in proving a tautology; Q.E.D., I am an idiot1.
