I looked at the profile code when I signed up for an account. Truly hedious markup. I mean really bad. Tables and all that, and almost no classes at all (they have classes for some types of text and links, but none of the block elements are named)
So every TD gets the same style, every table the same style and so on. Basically the only thing you can do is make tables invisible and add a background.
It's quite a shame, really. If they had used a sensible design there could really be a lot of creativity on the designs. But they didn't, so there won't be.
I think what's interesting about this is that the internet is getting its first generation gap. Theres a whole lot of kids out there that dont really give a shit how substandard the CSS is if it does what they want it to do.
And I have to admit, I work with code every day, I'm 30, and I love myspace. It does something useful and interesting, which is more than I can say for 99.999% of sites on the net.
Awesome article- I'm now in the process of ripping my MySpace to shreds and putting it back together again, using this guy's advice. adding a new photo to the page I set up a year ago so that I could get updates about a friend's band, and haven't touched since. Nor will I after this.
I get all the css stuff...
...but I don't understand where or how I'm supposed to implement the changes!
Does this mean I'm dumber than some 13 year old who can tile pictures of Justin and Kelly?
