So the Pulitzer Prize winners were announced today. There was no winner for drama. The nominees sound interesting (last graph): anyone know if there's a juicy story behind the decision to not choose a winner?
None of them were good enough. Plain and simple.

And I saw "Red Light Winter", and I loved it, but believe that it has major flaws that make it not winning the Pulitzer fair.

The other two nominees already closed, so I thought maybe if there would be a winner, "Red Light Winter" would have a leg up because it's still playing.

The theatre community expected that there would be no winner, so it's not a huge surprise. The eligibility period was shortened this year, too, so there's that.

Gah! Forgot Google news' one freebie policy. Sorry all.

Well, not registration, but you have to enter your zip code and birthday, the damn stalkers.

Plus I love Playbill Online (I know one of those writers, well, both actually, but Matt is a good pal of mine).

You nailed it with your first sentence, ThePinkSuperhero. Not good enough by half.

Did you see any of the nominees, Hugh? (I know you have a real name, but I will continue to call you Hugh, both on this site and in person)

Nah, but I read enough about them to know that I wouldna thought much of 'em. I saw and didn't like last year's winner, and didn't think it deserved the prize. Actually, I think Pulitzer Prize-winning plays should be a lot more rare than they have been over the last few years. Now it's like they say, "We've got a category, we've got the money; let's pick something!"

And you end up with "I Am My Own Wife" or "Anna in the Tropics" or "Doubt" collecting what I consider dubious honors.

Though I'm a playwright, I think very few plays deserve Pulitzers.
