Yo Chicago, wanna know what my ma looks like? Go to Rose's Lounge, 2656 N. Lincoln. Great gimlets, tremendous jukebox, →[More:]
and Rose, the bartender, looks just like my mom, only platinum blonde instead of meadow vole brunette.

My brother used to live on Diversey, and when I visited back in '98, he took me there, sent me up to the bar for a round, and watched my jaw drop. Spitting image.

So head on over to the Rose this weekend, take a good look at the owner/bartender, and see if she looks like anyone you know (if she looks exactly like your mother, I think we need to talk).

Back in the 1960's my mother bore a striking resemblance to Squeaky Fromme, Manson Girl and attempted presidential assassin, enough that my grandpa freaked a bit upon seeing her on TV.

Wow, that's weird, Hugh. Doesn't look like anyone I know, though.

As an aside, I love bars that have a fake roof over the bar. Makes you feel like you're in someone's backyard!

Me too. I once went to a place with a fake-bar-roof so low that I had to "duck inside" to order a drink. The barstools were nice, though.

Oh yeah, and if you look at the ceiling in the Rose, it makes you feel like you're in a school or some other public building, with the seamy ceiling thingamabobs.
