Whatcha listenin' to? Me? I'm listening to the new Beth Orton, the Mountain Goats, and some Calexico.
I had a Decemberists jones this morning, now I'm listening to Two Hundred Computer Fans And Keyboards And A High-Pitched Whine That The Old People Here Can't Hear And I Can't Locate. Then I'll probably listen to some Cubicle Neighbour Who Doesn't Understand That Having A Telephone Means You Don't Have To Shout So Loud That The Other Party Could Hear You Without It.
I finally got on Dimeadozen.org and was able to grab the three discs worth of Vivian Stanshall's Rawlinson End material that never had an official release. Of course, that killed my ratio right out of the gate, so I may not be on dime for long...
wait, Capn, do we work in the same place? Does the person in the cube next to you hit speaker to listen to his messages and to dial numbers and then click off when he's talking?
hellbient, you should check out, Leaning Over the Cube Wall to Show Me a Dilbert Cartoon and I Believe in Casual Fridays. They may only be available now as imports, but the drumming is really superb.
hellbient, sleepy_pete, Capn, you're killing me! :) Offices really do have a lot of ambient noise. I have the hum of fashionably exposed overhead airducts, a lot of keyboard clacking, and the whir of several dozen power supplies, including one G5 tower that thinks it's a racecar.
Kozyndan! I've seen their work at Giant Robot! Their panoramics are hypnotic.
heh.
sorry pete, i somehow glazed over your comment about speakerphone. No bite intended.
Have you heard "Your printing job can't go through cuz I'm printing color copies of tons of eBay stuff" or "Let's talk about TV at the coffee station"?
They sound like Smiths' titles if they all had day office jobs. Picture Morrissey singing "Panic at the color copier..."
Right now, I'm listening to the sound of some lady filling out a form for a library card. In a few moments, when I return to my cubicle of solitude, I'll be listening to Bobby Hutcherson.
I'm listening to Quintron and have been for weeks now.....good stuff! I adore the new Swamp Tech cd but at this very minute I am listening to the "Are you ready for an organ solo" album
hellbient, Capn: those are all fine, fine titles. Today the song "Do you know what the meeting at X:XX is about?"
Huh, LaBradford. That's hilarious. It would be true if the sound of me hitting my keyboard with my fists after each time I had to restart was used for percussion (hmm... yes perhaps I could sneak a microphone in here). Personally, I think that Morrisey's songs might be better if they were all about an office. "Coworkers caused my coma I know, I... no it's serious."
"There's a Memo That Never Goes Out"
"What Difference Does It Make If I Don't Fill Out This TPS Report?"
"Clockwatchers of the World Unite"
"I Started a Spreadsheet I Couldn't Finish"
"That Dilbert Joke Isn't Funny Anymore"
"William, That Copy Job Was Really Nothing"
"Some Sticky Notes Are Stickier Than Others"
"Frankly, Mr. Shankly"
"The Temp is Dead"
"Everyday is Like Monday"
"November Spawned a Webex"
"Dry Erase Board, Dry Erase Board"

I'm still listening to Mike Oldfield, today "Discovery" - I'd forgotten what a great album it is. Also some old Israeli pop. I can't read the names but I am assured that one of the tracks won Eurovision in 1978.
