my bamboo is starting to shoot. →[More:]
I counted about twenty-five shoots so far, it is just the beginning. The last shoots usually do not start popping out of the ground until early May.
This has been a "weretable's bamboo is shooting update"
My giant timber bamboo put out nine shoots last summer. It was too dry, so four of them aborted.
Then Hurricane Rita came through and broke of the tops of all the remaining new shoots, which were about 30 feet tall at the time. One died, and the others are just shortened.
My largest shoot is 3 1/2 inches in diameter, and 48 feet tall. This is some kick-ass bamboo, and I look forward to the crop of shoots this summer.
In order to keep the stand from spreading under my brick walkway, I buried a 2 by 4 foot steel plate, 1/8th inch thick, along the border. I hope it works, but there is a chance that the bamboo will go underneath it, as some shoots are 30 inches deep.
