what rings my bell?

walking dogs along the beach

waking up on a fresh morning in a white room with the sunlight pouring in, clean sheets on the bed, feeling really awake, with mr. g beside me and knowing we have the whole day to please ourselves

a long lunch with good friends and a bottle of wine

eating outside, by the sea

running around outside all day then fish and chips at night

- warm wind

- hitting all the green lights

- something unexpectedly funny that completely takes you by surprise and keeps tickling you long afer the moment has passed

- sincere and unbiased compliment from someone who is knowledgeable about that which they speak of

- being greeted with unabashed enthusiasm (a golden piece of emotional real estate largely dominated by kids and dogs)

- really wanting to hear a song and turning on the radio to hear it come on a few minutes later

- when you reach that point with a group you work with where you've seen the really good and the really bad in the individuals and the group as whole and you know each other's weaknesses and strengths so thoroughly that sometimes, maybe for weeks, you want to throttle everyone, including yourself. But then you have one of those periods/nights that should be an unmitigated trainwreck, when you're *this* close to losing faith in the whole operation and everything suddenly just works. And it's just as amazing as the first time you realized you were riding a two wheeler all by yourself.

OK. I totally scrolled right down to the bottom to post my list without reading any further than Frisbee Girl's first line about keeping the M.A.S. in check, and I will do so. Except, I just have to point out one thing which is that one of the reason's I'm in this thread is because of FG's phrase "wiggle in your walk" which just tickles me, and it's not the first time I've heard (and appreciated its use). So to start off:

- langage. I kid you not. I love its use. My father is big on word play. I think the joy that I get out of it stems from his influence. While I'm not a great writer or communicator myself at times, that doesn't preclude me from enjoying a clever turn of phrase or the artful use of words altogether. Which leads me to...

- conversation. I'm social. No, really!

- music. Let me be specific: Loud, preferably fast, rock music. Listening to it. Playing it.

- pets. I promise I won't write something after each item.

- drawing, and drawings.

- the following physical activities: biking, snowboarding, soccer, and just to slip this in somewhere (you know, to be discreet).

- trashy, bad comedies.

- a light beer in the summer with a bit of lemon around the glass. Best when the glass has been refrigerated.

- sleeping in on a day when you know you can just be as lazy as you'd like.

- new shoes....it doesn't happen as often as it should.

- being well. I miss it when it's gone, and so happy when it returns.

OK, I'm going to read the ones above me now.

As demonstrated by my poor grammar and lack of clarity and brevity in this post.

The clean smell of freshly washed sheets. The feel of a warm cat sleeping in the sun. Cooking for people. Teaching someone something new. Gardening and growing things. Fixing, renovating, or building things. Speaking in front of a group. Solitude in remote places. Howling with wolves. A big expense account. Dancing when the music is so loud I can feel the bass in my chest. Sleeping on a warm beach. A long hot bath in the dark. Sex any place wrong. Lightning storms. Laying on the deck of a sailboat after dark. Long talks. Quiet together time. A very cold beer on a very hot day. Miro and Picasso and my paintings from Haiti. Knowing that when I come home from the road my girlfriend will have something I like in the fridge for me to microwave and lots of cold beer. The fact that one of my cats sits across the room and looks at me and then closes his eyes and purrs when I talk to him and the other cat purrs when I come to bed and he knows his little family is all together.

On preview I notice I mentioned beer twice. hmm.

Outdoor concerts with cold beer.
Nonsense conversations carried on with a straight face.
A belly laugh.
When my kid is extra dorky.
The way my husband absent-mindedly tickles my belly when he walks past.
When people ask me for advice and then take it.
A fire.
A good soak in the tub.
Floating.
Being somewhere I've never been before.
A really good sandwich.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing that I hear, say, do or have done to me at the moment puts a wiggle in my walk, floats my boat, rings my bell or any other cute little saying you care to name.

I hate to think that I may be growing into one of those bitter old people who takes no joy in anything except the fact that nothing holds any joy, but it seems that this is happening. I don't know how to stop it and it seems that, anytime I start to see a glimmer of positivity on the horizon, someone comes along and stamps it out.

Never mind, this too shall pass. One way or another.

Arias. Especially when I see them performed live-especially when the soprano hits the high note and doesn't even break a sweat.

Tiny tiny wildflowers.

Hot showers.

Cat purrs (although arse_hat said it so much more eloquently).

Beets.

Face smiles.

Rain on tin roofs.

Finishing the Saturday NYT crossword.

That other thing.

I have no idea how much Acne Jeans are in the U.S. or if you can even get them (they're Swedish but you can at least get them online, probably). Here in Denmark they're about DKK 1000 to 1300 which Google tells me equals USD 163 to 212.

And yes, your butt says Acne when you wear them. I'll post a picture of my butt later if I get a chance.
