Interesting. But, sometimes I feel that, by watching anything on FOX News, we're poisoning our minds.
We have a right-wing-radio-populist-wannabe in our area. Karen often warns me not to listen to him, because it would put my soul in jeopardy. She's right.
And yet. I guess someone has to track what these people are up to....
I wish the word "blog" would be banned from television. It seems like these blow-hard 24-hour news anchors get a hard-on every time they get to say it and bring all their corniness and over-pronunciation talents to bear on that poor little word.
Possible candidates according to Betfair:
Mark Warner - 4.6
John Edwards - 9.4
Bill Richardson - 11.5
Evan Bayh - 15
Barack Obama - 20
Tom Vilsack - 21
Tom Daschle - 55
Rod Blagojevich - 12
Janet Napolitano - 60
Howard Dean - 70
Russ Feingold - 6.2
Al Gore - 15.5
John Kerry - 22
I think it'll be Allen with either McCain or Rice on that side.
I need to learn more about Napolitano--the problem with everyone other than Hillary is that she's sucking all the oxygen out of the room and will until the election, or until she drops out. She's the GOP's favorite candidate so gets mentioned all the time--daily, even--and not just on FOX.
Miko, she was on Kos for a long time, and then spun off My Left Wing--she rocks.
I think the GOP is treading in dangerous waters by pushing Clinton. If she runs, I think she'll win. I have nothing to support this besides my gut feeling, but I think she wins on a combination of Bill's (positive) legacy and the appeal of a "moderate" female candidate.
I think you're absolutely right, mullacc. Not only because of the reasons you mention, but because she's very passionate and aggressive in campaign situations. She is ready to unleash some serious content-management skill on the media and on the populace. No GOP candidate will ever be able to wrest the terms of debate from her grip.
Hillary Clinton won't get past the first set of primaries. She's hated too much by everyone on both sides for all the morally and politically questionable compromises she's made, and any halfway competent Democratic prez' candidate (i.e., Edwards) could easily rip her to shreds on the issues, no matter how much cleanup work she tries to pull.
We've had eight years of smooth politicians destroying the country, and people have had enough of buying lies from Hillary and the GOP. She epitomizes the act of selling out; we need someone's consistent, uncompromised view of how to lead this country out of the mess made by the GOP and Bush II.
I dunno. There is a very deep reservoir of dislike for her, and it isn't all on the right. Having said that, I think the 2000 Nader campaign and its effect on the results of that election may have sobered some people up.
Apparently so -- but Americans are a funny people. The supposed 'hatred' she inspires is irrational, and also much rarer than we'd be led to believe. We are so often told she's hated that we seem to accept that as a proven truth, when in fact, it's rather hard to find people who actually hate her and have a reason. (Her stance on the war is a problem for pacifists, though, it's true). The American public could easily decide they're tired of being expected to hate someone who is probably the very strongest candidate for the job.
She could quite easily go from 'most hated' to 'most respected/admired' once she gets an early chance to look like the overdog.
Besides, you want to talk about shady compromises? McCain.
if AlexReynolds is right we could end up with another Carter in our attempt to elect an honest man.
nope---we all want someone honest but ballsy--A Carter con cojones. (think Feingold and add some Spitzer in along with a sunny outlook and someone who radiates honesty and openness.)
By 07 and 08 the yearning for some competent, strong, honest, non-shady non-criminals to lead the country will be much bigger than it is even nowadays. Imagine how many investigations, indictments, convictions, resignations under clouds, etc, there will be by then. If Gore wasn't old news, it'd be a good time for him, but his time has passed (and Kerry's too)
and also--there's going to have to be voting reform before 08 for any of this to matter at all--a papertrail and computer systems that are secure and verifiable--no diebold shit.
Miko, we'll find out in November of this year. Either the Republicans will lose both houses or have to roll out all kinds of fraud to prevent it. But then, Diebold and the other electronic frauders are much more beholden to the White House than the Congressional GOP. And I still have the sadly fatalistic belief that King George will cancel the '08 elections after some well-timed terrorist incident (after all, the American Empire needs a real Emperor before it can complete its inevitable Decline and Fall). That kind of political pessimism will prevent me from being disappointed by the performance of any specific candidates.
i can't imagine a worse candidate than hillary clinton, aside from lyndon larouche maybe. a feingold/kucinich ticket would be my wet dream, but there's also lots of overlooked talent in the congressional black caucus
i fear that most of all too wendell--and think they'll do it.
I'd love to see some completely new people run --- any brand-new governors coming up or anything? I think Hillary should have run to beat Pataki and be Governor if she really wanted to be Prez--sitting Senators don't win.
Kucinich is right about everything, but he's too unphotogenic and his manner is weird--he needs tv lessons.
also, i liked the "terror alert: elevated" message scrolling at the bottom. (haven't watched fox news in a few years... didn't know they were still milking that. sheesh)
