I agree with every word. More and more, I get sick and tired of MetaFilter taking itself too seriously. It pisses me off when people say "it's just a web site dude, get over it", because it's way more than a web site, it's (or was) a community. As far as getting over it goes, I think I am getting over my addiction to MeFi, which is a shame. I still like it, but it is really starting to piss me off as well. Plus, if the blink tag is the most important thing mathowie has to worry about, this full-time gig must be doing amazing things for MeFi - how do I go about upgrading to the latest version without all the bugs?

I think Matt should bring back the blink tag but not tell anybody about it, and imagine the surprise and happiness when some one discovers that it works again.

Well, banning the blink tag seems to have ruined my best post.

The other day I was going to post an inline image, and the tag didn't seem to be working for me with tinypic.com. I'm still pondering if I got individually removed from using it or if matt just banned tinypic or what. *shrug*

I'm kinda getting over my MeFi (and even MeCha) addictions, but I think it just might be moving-time stress type stuff, I dunno.

It's just not engaging me like it used to, though I still find myself just habitually and obsessively loading MeFi, MeTa and AskMe, and of course popping in here to see how people are doing and seeing if there's any really fun threads to join.

And I'm glad that MeTa post resonates with people.

Here's what we can do: Do whatever you do to make MeFi fun. Be nice, be fair. But have fun. And spread the word.

Without excessively pontificating even more, this is exactly the kind of direct action a site like MeFi was built for.

It doesn't have to be some kind of destructive "THERE IS NO CABAL" cabal kinda assgrabbery.

Just do whatever it is that makes it fun and happy for you. You can avoid political threads, fights, drama, whatever. Post cool, fun stuff. Make good comments. Just do it, and ignore the fucking fuckers.

(Even though most of us there are - at one point or another - a fucking fucker. We/you/I can knock that shit out voluntarily, too.)

Just a quick note, I don't think mathowie has ever banned certain users from using certain tags, or blocked any particular site from being inline linked to. If you wanna try again, maybe put something in that MeTa thread, it should work.
