So yeah, that client I fired?→[More:]They still haven't paid me the $700 they owe me, 2 weeks later (the policy is a 3 day turnaround, and I submitted the invoice at the normal schedule required). .V.
I've emailed, resubmitted the invoice, called and emailed again. Asshat #1 is out of the office sick, the good guy is there today and has written me checks in the past, so I'm not sure WTF is going on. As usual, no communication, the hallmark of working for the place.
LOL Hugh! Here's the update: after talking to the receptionist who is also about to leave, the check was written by the good guy, and given to the asshat for "processing".
They should make a reality show out of this place. I came on as a contractor last October. It was immediately obvious that what I would be doing was very different from what they proposed. I was supposed to be drawing. I ended up
field measuring,
meeting with clients,
begging for my paycheck on a regular basis,
teaching complete newbies how to draw,
talking to sales idiots,
installing and troubleshooting software
researching software and hardware and obtaining estimates
that about covers it
Oh not to mention picking up the pieces of a job some other contractor dropped because he was an alcoholic in denial and would come sleep on his keyboard (literally - right through that beep the keyboard makes when you hold a key down too long) and in the conference room for hours. I'm not talking cat naps - I'm talking 3 HOURS of sleeping.
Then there's the other snakey contractor who pits everyone against each other and hires only women so he can manipulate them all. He is supposed to be "rebuilding the office" after last summer they fired everyone b/c no one wanted to manage any of them. He would come in every week and talk about the girl he dumped that weekend. This person is 48 and divorced, has been in the military, and has a design degree.
Then there's newbie girl who is a 45 y.o. woman who decided to switch careers and knows absolutely nothing about design or CAD. Why they hired this person is quite the mystery to me.
Now, contractor snakey wants to bring in his niece who just graduated from SCAD (yet another person with no experience), b/c no one will take the job - I wonder why?!
One other tidbit about contractor snakey: he sold himself to the firm as someone who could build teams and manage the office. Now, this firm is extremely environmentally conscious - they use non VOC paints, recycled finishes as much as possible, non toxic, LEED certified green roof, passive solar. So what kind of vehicle does contractor snakey drive? A fucking Mercedes SUV.
*sigh* I feel so much better know there are beefy people with bats and chainsaws willing to come to my rescue! :D Me, I'm thinking about grinding up the legs from a buncha daddy longlegs and slippin' 'em into the pepper shaker in their break room....
