The second annual smallest, coolest apartment contest. Check out the entries while the judges whittle them down to a top 10. [More:]I just rented a 450 sq. ft. apartment, so I'm looking for ideas.
This light fixture is awesome:

So jealous. Can't look.

These are so cool. I love looking at the floorplans, too.

WTF? First prize is a large, ungainly, monotasker chaise lounge?

I own a very similar chair, and it does not even vaguely fit into my 860 sqft house, but it't a family heirloom and I love it.

Triode: I think first prize is actually a $2500 Design Within Reach store credit (look below the photo). I guess they're just showing what you could get with it. If you had a bigger apartment.

So, for having a nicely furnished apartment, they award you new furnishings for your apartment?

Congratulations! You just won a slap in the face!

amro, this reminds me of a couple of my favorite books. Need help with your apartment? I can do some design-y stuff for you if you like...

Triode, is it an actual Corbusier chair? 'Cause that would be rad.

Hugh, excellent point.

Why thank you, Specklet! Those books look awesome. I would definitely appreciate your help - I'm not moving until May, but I'm taking very little of my current furniture with me. I am looking forward to starting from almost-scratch. Unfortunately, I will still be poor, but that almost makes decorating and furnishing a more fun challenge.

Specklet: It is an Eames Chaise that belonged to my grandparents.
IMO, Le Corb did more to ruin 20th century architecture than the rest of 'em combined. I'd sooner recline on cinderblocks. ;-)

Heh. This is my current favourite.

(I really hope it was indeed submitted as a joke, or somebody's going to be crushed.)

My serious favourite is this one, because it just embodies a total fantasy of stripping down one's possessions to a minimum and creating a serene space for working. Sigh.

These pictures make me want my own place real bad.

And yea, jokeefe, I wish I could make my home look like your serious favorite.... but it's hella (:-P Fris) hard! I'm horrible about throwing away papers and stuff- I find stuff months later and think, why did I not throw this away when I first got it?

Ya goof!

amro, I'd be happy to help!

Triode, that chaise is fantastic. And although Corbu is basically a concept architect and therefore completely impractical, he did have some great ideas about form...

Ohhh, I love stuff like this. The only reason to play Sims2 is to build homes. I'm a frustrated interior designer.
