Flexing the mod muscles Remember the first time you got to wear the mod hat in a semi-busy community?→[More:]

A few nights ago, the sole mod of the LJ newyorkers community made me a full co-mod of that community because we get along fine and I'm pretty good at catching the stuff she doesn't see because she's got a son and probably goes to bed earlier than I do. Today, a fight broke out between some folks in regards to today's "Freestyle Fridays" post that I put up, and after perusing some of the messages, I froze that discussion faster than a speeding troll.

Man, that felt good! It was almost better than sex! Almost.

Any other good mod stories you have to share?

The Powers that Be figured out long, long ago that giving me power is like giving a crack addict cash, it generally doesn't end well.

But oh boy, the banninations I would deliver!

And I'd make really funny reasons for deleting bad threads too.

Never, ever trust me with moderation.
I once had a problem with persistent trolls on a forum I was asked to co-moderate. I thought I'd cracked the problem when, after several unsuccessful attempts to IP-ban the idiots responsible, I hit on the bright idea of banning *.*.*.*
And no, even eight or nine years later, the forum owner doesn't see the funny side.

I call them sysops, anyway. Moderators can get too big for their britches; sysops are there to keep things running along.

Except for the mods/sysops here, 'cos mecha's different.

Every other day I have to banninate fake sign-ups that are excuses to spam the board I admin. It was fun at first, but now it's getting a wee bit tiresome.
