29 March 2006

While everyone's still thinking about kissing each other... I'll just remind you all that we're having a MetaChat NYC mini-meetup in 8 days. April 6, at Rudy's.
What's the best time for the locals?
posted by agropyron 29 March | 13:37
Any time that doesn't involve going to Rudy's.
posted by dame 29 March | 13:55
After 6 pm, because that's when I get out of work.
posted by TrishaLynn 29 March | 14:12
Yea, could we do it at 7? Or 7:30?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 29 March | 14:13
Oh, never mind. That's a Thursday, so no dame. Ignore me.
posted by dame 29 March | 14:15
Is it this Rudy's (9th ave b/t 44th and 45th st)? Why is this place anathema to dame - does it have karaoke?

The later the better for me. 7:30pm is reasonable. But don't plan around me - something could come up and keep me from coming anyway.

I was curious too. Why do you hate Rudy's, dame? It was suggested by amberglow.

7:30 sounds fine to me. Do people usually eat before going to Rudy's to drink, or is the Rudy's food worth waiting for?

mullacc: that's the place. Hmm, the citysearch reviews mention "Burritoville" right next door.
posted by agropyron 29 March | 14:39
I note that none of the reviews mention anything good about the food, other than the cost (free hotdogs).
posted by agropyron 29 March | 14:39
Go to Burritoville for dinner. It's yummy, though not terribly authentic.

I hate Rudy's because it's filled with lame-o's & mooks and the last time we went there someone threw egg at us from a building near the patio. And crap like that always happens there. If you can't sit outside, which you may not be able to, it's even worse. I have no idea what kind of drugs amberglow was on.

I'm gonna have to say I share dame's opinion of the place. It was mookish even by my standards. Dosen't mean I won't show, though.

I'd come, too, but you know . . . practice.
posted by dame 29 March | 15:02
Is there a specific definition for the word mook? I thought it was just a general word for undesirable people, but I think I'm missing something.
posted by mullacc 29 March | 15:33
mook means sort of dumb and luggy, and not in that likable slob John Belushi kind of way, more the stupid, somewhat scary Fred Durst kind of way.
posted by jonmc 29 March | 15:34
Oddly, a friend of mine twisted the word around to mean a man who was in a relationship with another male and they were very cuddly and sappy about it.
posted by TrishaLynn 29 March | 15:37
Didn't y'all just have a meetup?
posted by eamondaly 29 March | 15:38
Like the njguido.com guys, jon?
posted by mullacc 29 March | 15:39
Yes, mullacc, those are mooks. See also, men in Yankees hats.
posted by dame 29 March | 15:41
mmmm, burritoville. you know I hear that their "Bob Marley's Last Burrito," dish is what actually killed him.
posted by shmegegge 29 March | 15:43
guidos can be mookish, but not all guidos are mooks. Some are true paisans.

See also, men in Yankees hats.

No, they're simply retarded.
posted by jonmc 29 March | 15:43
Anyway, I'm always up for more meetups at Revival. The bartender gave me a free Guiness last weekend for discernable reason.

But, some variety is also good.
posted by mullacc 29 March | 15:51
for NO discernable reason.

There's always Antarctica.

The bar. not the continent.
posted by jonmc 29 March | 15:55
I can't make it, but if everyone hates that place, I recommend grassroots or san marcos on st. mark's instead.
posted by shmegegge 29 March | 15:58
I do like Antarctica, and not just because it's very close to work. Or that they have Australian bartenders. And Aussie Dave gives us free shots.

I've never been to Rudy's and am just going where you tell me to go.
posted by TrishaLynn 29 March | 16:00
Mmmm San Marcos is nice!

Never been to Rudy's (in NYC) tho.
posted by Hugh Janus 29 March | 16:15
And SM is closer to 7B, where jonmc and I met those nice women that one time.
posted by Hugh Janus 29 March | 16:20
oh yeah, the Lesbians on Wheels.

This is more like, "agropyron's in town, who wants to have a drink with him?"
posted by agropyron 29 March | 17:24
My pointless trivia: mook is from The Merchants of Cool, and it basically means frat-boy, or frat-boy-alike.

As in "I hate that bar. It's full of mooks and midriffs."

Tonight is my last French class so next thursday is free! But I might be there (wherever there might be) a little on the early side (whatever time that might be).
