Toronto. I haven't been to many places, but if I had to pick one in specific, that would be it. Every time I go there I'm reminded how fun, laid back, and friendly the city is. And they have great clubs.
As a region, I'm tempted to say the Caribbean, but the only major city I went to there was Nassau, which was nasty. But god, those beaches are something. White sand, blue water, it looks FAKE.
I'm going to anticipate the "Grow up, Eideteker" from mudpuppie and say that I've been missing the cabin in VT I stayed with my sweetie in... 2002? We saw four seasons that week; it was 80 when we arrived, then cooler, then it snowed, then warmer and raining and in the high 70s again when we left.
I love Vermont, not just because billboards are verboten there (though that's part of it). I've always said I'd love to summer in VT and winter in NOLA. When I am rich/king/dreaming.
And echoing taz, I'd love to try living in NYC again. I think it would be different if I actually had money.
Also, I was 2 when we left KC, MO, and I've never been back. It's a dream of mine to go there, even if I can't remember it. It'll always have a special place in my heart, even if I think of myself as "from" Louisville.
Mallorca. Specifically, Deia, which in the early eighties when I lived there was just an incredibly cool little expat village full of artists, musicians and layabout drinkers.
I've gotta go with Hong Kong. I love cities, and it's by far the densest city on the planet. Just being around that many people and shiny buildings makes you feel all coked up - in a good way.
my adopted hometown of Los Angeles. (dont believe the negative hype! I grew up on the east coast and all I ever heard was how awful it is here and 95% of it is lies)
Other than that, London or the Scottish highlands. I really need to travel more, though.
I love Hong Kong too, pieisesactlythree - it is the antithesis of how I wold want to live, but the pure energy of the place is amazing. It's the only place in Asia of all the ones I have visited for work that I would like to go back to for a holiday.
Glencoe (in Scotland) was pretty amazing, and had my all-time favorite travel moment. Listening to Bjork's "Homogenic" on the side of a mountain just before a rainstorm.
I also really enjoyed Quebec City, and would love to go back.
There's this Spring garden in the back of the Tokyo National Museum that's like stepping onto another planet, or visiting the image behind the frame of a postage stamp, where a friend and I took tea with the caretaker, relaxing in the petaled breeze flowing through the open panels of the Tengô-an building.
