Strewth! Some Strine Sounds [More:]Because bmarkey liked the other Hoodoos song and because I'd like to give something back to all the bunnies who've been feeding my music habit for the last few months or so, here are some grouse tunes for your enjoyment.

The sound is sort of Detroit / NY 70s, but also uniquely 70s/80s Aussie.

Radio Birdman

Le Hoodoo Gurus*

The Saints

The Sunnyboys

*Yeah, I know. It should be "Les Hoodoo Gurus" ("Les Hoodoos Gurus"?), but they dropped the article soon after to become the plain old Hoodoo Gurus anyway.
I hear they also didn't pass their Red Hat certs, so the "guru" bit is right out.

Fine choices all, geckodundee. I hadn't heard The Sunnyboys before, so thanks also for that.

If I may impose... I have that version of "Leilani" from the Do The Pop compilation (which is highly recommended to anyone interested in Aussie punk/garage goodies). You wouldn't have the version from Stoneage Romeos on hand, would you? I used to have the vinyl album a very long time ago, but an evil ex-girlfriend made off with it and the availability of the CD here in the States is spotty. (Last time I checked - about five minutes ago - it was out of print here.) I'd be glad to upload something in exchange...

Crikey! These are really dangerous!

Here's the Stoneage Romeos version for bmarkey's pleasure.

While I'm here, for those of you following (or participating in) the Monkey's spread wars thread, here's an alternative version of Land Down Under. And for anyone who's travelling overseas (or even in Texas - which is overseas of course) something that might strike a chord. (In a totally different vein, but great fun all the same).

Hmm. As a devout Pastafarian I approve heartily of sharing, but I should get out of this mode and think of some other way of contributing. I'm thinking something along the lines of an "OMG! Geckoes!" thread. Especially as we're about to move to somewhere that probably isn't swarming in the buggers. There's a tiny one in our letterbox, so maybe I should try to shoot it tomorrow...

With a camera of course.

It doesn't really require a quid pro quo, but if bmarkey has anything by the Lime Spiders that isn't on the excellent aforementioned Do The Pop! album, I'm sure we'd all be the richer for it.

Bless you, sir or madam.

As it turns out, I’ve only got one other Lime Spiders track, “Slave Girl”. I’ve taken the liberty of uploading a couple of other things to supplement it. Here’s something of a similar vintage, “Help You Ann” by the Lyres. Here’s a track by the late lamented Gits, “Second Skin”, and one from a current Seattle band, “Revelation” by Invisible Eyes.

As the poet said, dig 'em.

Oops, my bad. "Slave Girl" actually is on Do The Pop. Sorry about that; the copy I've got on the 'puter is from Children Of Nuggets. Please accept my favorite Radio Birdman cut, "Descent Into The Maelstrom", in it's place.

I've always been really dang fond of their "Smith & Wesson Blues".
