I just got glasses→[More:]My first eye exam, and my first pair of glasses. It's a real light prescription, but nevertheless, my days of boasting that I had 20/20 vision are over.
i started using the drugstore kind for reading a couple of years ago, but haven't progressed to real big girl glasses yet. i still haven't gotten used to them.
I've never had an eye exam, either, and like to boast about my 20/20 vision. You've spurred me to make an appointment.
I didn't go just for kicks- my vision has gotten blurry in the past few months (probably due to hours and hours of staring at spreadsheets in a dark cubicle, and then staring at IRC for hours into the night- hehe, guess it's good #metachat is closing down! Will ruin my MeCha socialization, but will save my vision!)

Most people who haven't been tested who think they have 20/20 don't. The brain is an amazing thing, you can be half blind and not realize it because it has always been that way or your vision has degraded slowly. Many people first get glasses when they are declared too blind to drive by the Department of Motor Vehicles. I know my prescription changes all the time yet I'm always amazed how bad it was every time I get new lenses.

Good thing you went, a sudden change in vision can be caused by a detached retina or glaucoma.
Gah - I can't imagine. I got my first pair of glasses at age 6 and I hated them ever after. To this day I am embarrassed by my myopic self. I had a bright red pair in 4th grade; worst fashion mistake of my life. Yeah. Tall tall skinny skinny pale pale strawberry blonde headed girl child in red coke bottle bottom glasses - I got teased unmercifully. I was so glad when the basketball hit me in the face and broke them in half in gym class that day.
Don't feel old. I first got glasses when I was seven. I still remember how amazing it was to put them on for the first time, and suddenly see everything clearly.
miss bitchy pants, you only pine for glasses because you don't need them. if I had the money and wasn't so terrified of going blind because someone fucks up, I would get laser surgery in an instant. Having worn glasses every day of my life for 30 years now, I would loooove to throw them away forever.
